First time I seen that wix filter inside the fuel bowl was on a 56 T-Bird I guess it came that way not sure. I suppose that would work on my 1938 John Deere AR two cylinder Johnny popper. The fuel shut offs on those old John Deere's never did shut off completely and when it set for a long time you'd probably have about 12 gallons of fuel inside your crankcase.

“You don’t need plumber’s tape”. I recently replaced the gas shut off valve in my 1930 Roadster. Seems like half the Model A club members insisted that Teflon plumber’s tape is a terrible idea, that it would dissolve in the gasoline and clog the carburetor. The other half of the club was unanimous on insisting that Teflon tape makes it easier to screw in the valve, fills in any tiny irregularities in the threads that could leak, and the threads never touch gasoline so the tape can’t dissolve, and just ignore those other guys. Which oil is best? 6 volt or 12? Generator or alternator? Zenith or Tillotson or Marvel-Schebler? And is it pronounced SHE-blur or SHEB-lur? I’ve concluded that the genius of the Model A design is that it tolerates lots of different ways, so EVERYONE gets to be right! No wonder it’s still so popular.

Paul, I agree on using the "pencil" in tank strainers. I have tractor that would stall out under load and I could never figure out why... someone suggested I use one and Presto, problem solved! One thing I do is put a bit of solder where it connects to the fuel outlet to keep it in place, works for me anyway...
@ScumClassWorks Жыл бұрын
I also used solder on the filter end. Got it coated all round with molten solder and pushed the valve over it before it cooled. Something all "A"s should've had from the factory.

I see the A has one of the accessory intake manifolds. Hmmm, I’ve often wondered about these. It may be seen somewhat sacrilegious by some, but I’m running the Weber carburetor upgrade on my 31 Roadster. This car is a daily driver so the benefits of the more modern carb/intake manifold can be realized. If my usage pattern were more typical, I’d definitely stick with original zenith.

I still use it and modern one's all the time !!!

do you recommend gasoline proof sealant on that smaller fuel line that goes from the fuel bowl down to the carb? Air filter? After I put one on my Model A everyone admonished me that any fuel that drips out of the carb mouth will soak that paper filter and whooosh BBQ Ford. Also that the carb will need rejetting or it will run too rich. So I took it off. Then when I bought a spare carb from a club member he gave me another air filter. I said I didn’t want it. He insisted I take it out of his garage, and snuck it into the box alongside the carb. Now I have two potential whoosh bombs on the shelf. Well on my way to collecting a whole garage full of Model A stuff I don’t need.
