@MrBluesboy214 жыл бұрын
The song is a masterpiece, but IMO there's an element of tragedy in the lyrics too, so I don't find it necessary romantic.
@Ana_D.C.4 жыл бұрын
@@MrBluesboy21, excuse me, but you are a little confused, and you contradict yourself. Look... If you identify only love and happiness with romantic songs, you're totally wrong... In the XVIII century, an amazing movement called 'Romanticism' was created, and spread to Art (Music is Art too). For example, the visionary novel (and ahead of its time) 'Frankenstein' written by Mary Shelley is 100% full of tragedy BUT is 100% romantic at the same time because is a 'Romanticism' novel. . Britannica: Romanticism movement -> www.britannica.com/art/Romanticism . BBC: Differences between Romance and Romanticism -> www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06d2j1w Another example is this Paul Weller's song. Full of passion, love, nostalgia and tragedy at the same time. So, for that reason is 100% a romantic song ('Romanticism' Poem) because it's exactly all what you said in your comment. Passion, love, tragedy, nostalgia, sadness, memories, longing, melancholy are also part of the 'Romanticism' movement and romantic songs too.

@@MrBluesboy21 I agree. It's why I don't understand why people play it at their weddings?
@MrBluesboy214 жыл бұрын
@@Ana_D.C. You are right, my mistake, what I was trying to say is that I don't find the song suitable for a wedding dance, mostly because some elements from the lyrics doesn't fit the particular elements from a wedding.

Paul Carrack famously tells a story about a time when he had hair and was getting a haircut and the chap next to him asked him, "what do you do?" and he replied, "I'm a singer songwriter" and then "Tempted" came on in the shop. He turns to the bloke and says, "Actually, that's me right there" to which the chap responded, "that's Paul Weller".....
