Thank you for the content nick. My bench was stuck on 176LBS bench for the longest time. I implemented a lot of paused rep training and I hit a PR of 242LBS last week.

Another thing if you plan on competing in lifting competition I’ve never seen a meet where touch and go’s count as a actual bench rep, so maybe keep that in mind if competing is in your plans, but this is great advice in video with using touch n go and three days of bench, sometimes work heavy dumbbells. Great advice and the bar speed mentioned is dead on point!

I would suggest your warmup weights start with pause. Once you get to a decent weight (185) 5 touch and go 5 pause. Do this all the way to about 285 to 315 depending on strength.

@jesussandoval8756

I make good gains by benching twice a week. Everyone is different. If you're a newbie than yeah maybe training bench three times a week sounds optimal to make quick gains. Idk I'm just going by experience. I've gone from a 195 lb max bench to 260 lb max by training bench twice a week. If I add another day it wouldn't feel right and that's just my opinion.

My pause bench feels better than my touch and go, I have tried to remedy this as I know I should be able to lift more on a touch and go. I just feel like I'm less explosive unless I get the pause, because the pause helps me coordinate the explosive power

@apointtomake1517

Off season when you just train bench for exercise touch and go is fine. But once you start a powerlifting cycle, that is when you should do paused reps for every set. You need to re-calibrate your body for that pause.

Hey Nick, as long as you’re hawking the elbow sleeves, got a question for you. I’m looking to get Mark’s knee sleeves. I don’t compete and never will, so being allowed in competition isn’t a factor for me. Any reason I shouldn’t go with the gangsta sleeves, even though I’m not squatting all that much (1.5x body weight as a 1RM)? NICK10 it is!

@@NickWright my bad lol i mean “your braces”. It may just be my bias from my dad but he benched 565 for 4 reps and he never used braces, so I’m already a little weirded out by them when people use them but one of the first things u said is you randomly talk about your braces and then mentioning that they’re extra large lol. It adds nothing to the point of the video and leaves a meat head vibe first impression. Don’t have to listen to me but that was my first impression of you if you care to learn from it. Or fuck me who cares 😂

@NickWright
@NickWright Ай бұрын
It doesn’t make you slower. Slower is to reduce speed. But it won’t necessarily make you faster IF you are already explosive off the chest. In which case, adding some tng on TOP of your pause days can certainly help with bar speed if all major weaknesses are covered.

@@NickWrightPausing will help break through all sticking points i.e.the bottom, mid, and top. If the middle is STILL weak and SLOW then it's the anterior shoulders. Obviously at the top will be the triceps. The only reason people advocate tng after cycling paused bench is because tng is synonymous with skipping the first 1/3 of the lift i.e. the chest, and hammering the shoulders...rather lifters know it or not. Pause ALL heavy benching and bring up the shoulders so triceps will be your only enemy. Not me though bc all my pressing is close grip and paused😅
