Speaking clearly and being understood when speaking English isn't just about pronouncing vowels and consonants correctly. Sometimes, you just need to slow down and pause more. Use this lesson to learn about and practice pausing!
Note that there is a lot of information in this lesson, so watch it several times if you need to. Also, be sure to notice how native speakers put tiny pauses in their sentences.
Enjoy!

I was trying to find a good, clear way to teach my Chinese students about pauses, and I'm so happy that I found this video. Thank you! By the way, I just realized that we can think of thought groups as lists. We know that in lists, our pitch rises which each item except for the last, which has a falling pitch. In thought groups, the pitch for the word at the end of each group rises (or more accurately stays at a high pitch) except for the word in the last thought group, which is usually the end of the sentence. Any thoughts?
