Don't laugh. Back in the mid 80s I collected comics. Anyway I'm at a store and I see a Thor with some really excellent art work on the cover. Even though I had an account at a local comic book store I decided to buy it. Saw other copies in other stores and ended up buying a total of five. The next week I go to get my subscription at the comic store. I'm looking in the display case and there is that same comic for $75.00. I'm not joking. Turned out they had a misprinting and shorted the printing by almost 300,000 comics. To this day I love Beta Ray Bill.

What makes this book so collectable and valuable, one of the most expensive modern firsts, is that Harper Lee was a complete nobody when this was published-the first came out before the movie. So the first run of the first edition was very small. But after the film came out they printed a trillion copies. Also, it was common for this book to come with two dust jackets (many books during that time came with two.) So you could find a nice jacket to put on this copy and the price would rise a lot. Many collectors do that with this book.

I’m not sure how much it would raise the price. It still has the library stamps which probably hurt the value a lot. I’m not a book expert, but I’ve always stay away from ex-library books when I go thrift shopping. Rebecca also always knocks a lot off the price in general for ex-library books.

@@tadtranclere3729 no. Condition is everything. I was just giving some info because I worked at a famous rare bookstore in San Francisco. The library stamp kills the value outright. The condition is so important to value. For any book. But this is one of the most valuable firsts because of what I said before. The only way stamp would be of no issue is if it was signed from Harper Lee to Truman Capote...something like that.

If you don't know anything about it you never ask the customer what they want for it. Once customer says the number that becomes their starting point of negotiation and you loose money. Never ever let customer make the first offer.
