That is not how it works when you are in the business of reselling used items. You buy what you yourself want to have, but never buy anything you can't make money on. So when you get tired of it, as you inevitably will, you can sell it, or put it up for sale and use it while it sells. The idea of buying something just have it indefinitely without a care for it's actual value is not good business, and is why so many people are broke.
@TalkingHands308
@TalkingHands308 2 жыл бұрын
But even if he wanted it for himself, I'm pretty sure he would still want to restore it, and it just doesn't make sense to pay someone for something that basically requires the entire value of the finished product to restore it. At that rate, he should just go look for an already restored one and buy it at that price...
@brentfarvors192

Not really; The whole point of owning a collector car is that it will appreciate no matter what. This wasn't "that car", because no one cares about your hobby project; Any serious investor wants the car as original to factory as possible. Whenever you "customize", anything, be prepared to be throwing your $ away...Just installing second hand seats, devalued the car signifigantly...

In 1970 I bought a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible in West Warwick RI. It was Pastel blue and I paid 2600 dollars. I ordered it special so it took 4 weeks to come in. Was a fun car to drive but had very little power and poor brakes. I got married in March of 73 and my first son was born in January of 74 so I had to sell it. There fun to drive but my golf clubs took up the back seat and the front of the car had very little storage.

That's probably the guy's shop price, doing it yourself would be CHEAP. The shifter rattling is common on older VW's as well, though I'm sure you're aware of that. I'll bet the body is full of Bondo too. My brother bought a real cherry looking white '59 K.G. in the mid 60's and then he had some minor fender benders. That exposed all the Bondo and it was loaded with it. Those aluminum bodies were very expensive to fix, that is when you could find a body shop to fix them. So many body shops would pound out what they could and Bondo it smooth. I guess it remained "hand built" that way. LOL!

I see where people put all these cool mods into something & taken out of perspective & sometimes ask way too much for something that’s worth 1/2 the price of asking if it was all working right, or where people change tons of parts on something like Rotors, calipers, brake lines in a warmer climate like Arizona or California. What happened in the video where people overmodify something is a common thing I see all the time on the car/vehicle market mainly on the older trucks. This is why it’s hard sometimes to find an older good clean original cuz people modify the crap out of something, blow it up, then scrap it.
