Fun fact about Pawn Stars: Whenever someone comes into the shop with something really cool, Rick will ask them if they wanna be in an episode and give them a date to come back on. This is done so that they can coach the seller into how to act in front of a TV camera and to avoid other issues. When they are filming the shop is closed and the place is flushed of everybody except the extras.

In business you do something called risk management. If you risk a lot all the time eventually you're going to get burned or go out of business. Pawn shops can't operate on razor thin margins because any item they buy can sit for years or they may not get as much as they want for the item $$ wise. If it was as simple as oh I bought X item for $5,000 now I'm going to definitely sell it for $6,000 a month later sure they can offer more money. Chances are great that said item will sit for a long while unless it's a really popular item.

@@HandlesL Except these are *REAL* experts. No real expert would discredit themselves on TELEVISION for a few $. Takes seconds to google who these people are, and they have meritorious pedigrees. Fact is, their valuation is the average price. You could sell your own underwear for $1, but if someone who is ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with you comes along, you could sell it for 1 million dollars. But does that mean that you were scammed if someone told you it was just worth $1? No, they're being realistic.
