This was super helpful. Got my upgrade installed yesterday. It took way longer and after install we quit for the night. Today I'm trying to get the computer side set up. I can't get the x limit switch to work. It fails when I do the homing process when I was setting up new machine. Super frustrated. LOL. Looking for answers. Not even sure what to do. But this video is something I've been looking for anyways. Thanks for sharing

Congratulations on getting the upgrade completed. The limit switches are fragile and they break. Also, check the wiring. I have had the wire break as well. However, most often I have found that the switch is either broken or dirty. I actually keep extra on hand. Thanks for sharing.

@@PawPawsWorkShop Thank you! I'm super excited. I actually called Inventables support. I was so surprised to get a call back today. The x limit switch just wasn't engaging enough. So he had me go to their site and note a picture of a common issue with the z switch. It was solved by slightly bending the metal piece. It worked!!! Everything is about set up. I am just jumping on KZbin so that I can watch your video of adding the new wasteboard. I watched it before. But now Im ready to make it. Thank you for your help.

Paw Paw, do you do any maintenance on your stepper motors? Yours seem so quiet compared to mine. As always, love your videos and the time you take to explain things so clearly.

I would have to say no. The only maintenance is just cleaning the stepper motors. I ensure that ever is clean and not binding

How did you actually set your "work home" position to be the x+1/y+2? That part I don't understand. I understand homing the machine, I can do that. I understand how your manually go to your work home position, I can do that. I understand where you home the machine again, carrying it to the "machine home" location using the limit switches. The next step, where you push the "work home" button, how did you save in your system for that to be the position it goes to? If I push that button it goes to the far right and all the way up the y axis, the exact opposite of the machine home location. Thank you!

I move it to the 1,2 position only because that is how is set the wasteboard up. It literally can be at any point that you want. Then as you go through the checklist you must select the “set x,y home”.

@@PawPawsWorkShop I finally figured that out lol. I thought you had your machine “work home” set for 1,2 at all times, never having to reset it. I realized that after going through the pre-carve checklist that that’s when you say the x/y for your “work home” for that piece, until you either change it or turn off the machine. I found this to be very helpful when doing multi-stage cuts like having a rough and detail cuts, changing bits in between. Have you ever had any trouble with your machine losing its “work home” after the first cut?? Thank you so much!!

Can I set the work 0 position to work with the offline controller ?

I rarely use the offline controller but yes you should be able to do so.

I have a smaller machine : a ''sain smart 3018 Pro ver'' but i use Easel pro. after doing what you explained, i push ''Home'' and it's ok, it goes at Home, but after when i push on ''point 0'', it move only few millimeters on the right and that's all. No, once you power down the machine it loses that position. You will need to set it the first time in the new day

You've taken a lot of steps, but as a complete beginner, I'm having trouble figuring out why you're doing what you're doing. There's a lot of movement, but I don't know how it relates to carving. I know that a lot of people will say that this is setting some sort of a home position, but without having any sort of a reference to something that I already know, I find myself quite confused. I do appreciate the effort of trying to explain, however.

@@PawPawsWorkShop I so appreciate the quick reply. I bought the xcarve, (used) and I find that it either cuts too deep, or doesn't touch the project at all. Also, the depth of cut is different than what I set it to. I set it for one quarter inch, but it cuts much deeper, probably about a third. I guess that's my biggest issue right now.

More than likely your machine is out of calibration. Look at my video on calibrating the XCarve. It’s not that hard to do. Also, the videos on the FOXAlien and the CNC4NEWBIE New Carve all work the same. The only difference is using easel or another software. I help you any way that I can

@@PawPawsWorkShop I have a 4040 pro that I am new to cnc. I do not know what’s wrong with it or what I did to it. When I unlock press reset than home the spindle does not move . I can move it up and down manually but when I press home it doesn’t move. Saintsmart said I needed a new motherboard this is a brand new machine not one project done.

Will this work for bit changes where you move your xy while changing bits? I’m having hard time with this!

No, if you change bits and move the machine the machine will not know it’s location. You would need to home the machine again. The best way to prevent this is to go into the GRBL settings and set $1=255. That will lock the stepper motors and allow you to change the bit without moving the machine

Go in and change the settings. It will lock the stepper motors so you will be able to change the bits

Are you using Chrome? Not sure the virus software that you have on your computer. Check with Inventables. Then you might consider turning off the virus software and down the software then turn back on your virus protection.
