yeah, with a little knowledge you can basically print or cut a test page..bravo! sorry but i was hoping for so much more in this video.. I don't have a CNC but even if i did, i wouldn't have much interest in printing ("cutting") a piece of clipart from within the application, all CNC software provide the same examples as a 'test print'.. it would have been 10x more valuable if he used a generic image outside of the clipart to really show how to do something unique . .

@@brendanfitzpatrick7399 Believe me if you just got a machine setup from scratch and did all the wiring etc then you dont give a crap about value or where your test piece came from. You just want to make sure your machine works as intended and with your choices of the many softwares you decided to use to create it. Have you ever printed a test page from a new printer? Well thats all it is. Frankly a 3D eagle in wood beats the hell out of a sheet of paper your gonna throw in the trash anyway.

With all due respect to Ms Fitzpatrick, your video is exactly what I wanted and what I expected. It is a step that needs to be taken in my learning process. This is all new to me. Kudos to you for taking the time (yours and ours) to clearly explain the steps that you were taking. That will enable me to perform a similar on my computer and CNC as I progress in the process of properly using these powerful and innovative new tools. The pace was certainly not too slow. THANKS so very much.

@@PawPawsWorkShop If you go back and look at 21:09, you can see that the side on the project isn't flat either because the wood is slightly bowed or because the particle board below isn't level with the rest of the table. It would appear that the particle runner isn't tied down completely or perhaps there's something under it? I can't tell. Either way, thanks for taking the time to make this video for us!

Hi Paw Paw, A couple quick questions… so you did it all in one pass with the 1/8” bn, so it would have been cutting fairly deep. I heard you say 8-10% step-over, so you stepped over somewhere under .0125? And might I ask your feed rate? I’m very much a novice, and as such would have thought that deep a cut would have broken the bit.

First thank you very much. In today's market there are many great machines. I know only what I have seen in the commercials regarding the XCarve Pro. It is a new unproven platform. I have questioned the Inventables team but I must say that I would go with the proven product and chose one of the cnc4newbies products. They are very solid and I love mine.

i would not recommend the xcarve. i just got one and i wish i would have spent another 1000 and got something a little better. the button head screws it came with for assembly are garbage. i had to re tap the holes for the dust collector brackets. this machine is veeery overpriced. i dont expect the xcarve pro is much different besides being more rigid...

Hey paw paw, your work is outstanding. I’m about 12 months from retirement and I want to get into CNC routing for fun and to help with local charities. Hi Paw Paw, thank you very much for the great tutorial. As I'm new to that usage of a CNC I might have some beginners's questions. I'm somehow confused about the different heights. @PawPawsWorkShop

Yes, it is possible. You're software is the main factor. Easel will not work to do this type of carving. You need VCarve or similar software.

How hard would it be to carve the eagle head out of different wood and make it an inlay into the circle? I don't have a CNC yet but I'm very interested in getting one.

That’s doable. Just have to set up a cut line on the outside of the eagle. Thanks for watching

You can certainly use Easel. I would also suggest Inkscape. Perhaps use UGS in place of candle. Later you may wish to get VCarve Desktop

@@PawPawsWorkShop Thanks. I was using the CNC for the first time utilizing Easel and one of their test carves. I was using a 1/8" bit and set all the parameters for the wood stock i was using and the machine went hay wire. It started at the zero position on the wood and then started going directly towards the x-axis off the wood, so i shut it down, Not sure what is going on. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the x,y 0 position was not established or for some reason was not saved or lost

@@PawPawsWorkShop I was using a 18" long x 6" wide x 1" thick piece of wood (pine) on the machine. Was using the test carve from the software at the time. I entered the wood dimensions in the Easel software but did not set any X.Y, 0 positions as i thought the software did that automatically. I did however set the X,Y and Z axis to zero before starting, so that may have been why it happened.

I've got a question I hope someone with experience can help with. Are the tool paths already figured out for you when you purchase stl files? I'm hoping the stl files are like "recipes" and tool paths are already part of the file.

You will still need to have the software to generate the toolpaths and generate the gcode to carve the STL files.

Hello. I am a relatively new user and have gotten pretty decent at easel pro (although not even close to your level) and would like to venture out a little. Could you tell me what what kind of file that eagle this would be? .stl .dxf or any of the zillion types of extensions. I am totally confused abut the file extensions. I thought the .stl was a 3d printer file. I don't have and cannot afford v-carve pro. I have easel pro. Is there any place I can go to get something like the eagle for free? Thanks.

This eagle is one of the free files in the VCarve from Vectric. When you make your purchase, there is a wide range of different files that you can download as well along with many others that you can purchase. You can start with VCarve desktop with is the least expensive option and later add the pro. You only pay the difference. With the desktop you will get the files.
