Hi Iam just coming across JP and his videos for the first time. If anything they stir thought, uplift and inspire. I would love to know his thoughts on Freemason Philosophies. In the same way he has commented on Bible stories and such. I would love to hear what he thinks of the Legends and a philosophies found in Freemasonry.

Just concentrate. Be active in what you read, how you listen. Don't be passive unless that's a good method for paying closer attention. Sometimes that works too. Have you ever turned off the sound when watching a sporting event on TV? It's quite revealing just seeing what TV hosts are trying to tell you you're seeing. (This is a holdover from radio days.)

Sit down and think about who you could be in say 4 years time if you did everything right and things went well. Think about what you need to do to make it happen. Set your goals accordingly. Make a step by step plan to achieve those goals and move towards them incrementally everyday. (Basically paraphrasing things JP has said. I happen to think he’s onto something). As you progress towards your goals you’ll become more competent and learn. Using this you can set new, more accurate goals.

If our inbuilt value structure is corrupted from the beginning are we intuitively aware of that? What if the thing that guides your interest is negative? I am thinking of addiction scenarios or cheating to attain your goal or lying......would success in those pursuits condition one to believe that the success, albeit temporary, is a positive path that one should continue along?

Do you suppose that if I were really paying attention to my interests (that which shines forth), they would become more altruistic?
@aartist90
@aartist90 8 жыл бұрын
+Jordan B Peterson Ah, yes, I shouldn't hold altruism as the "right" which opposes "wrong". There are definitely some pitfalls to an overly-selfless attitude. So if I'm truly paying attention to my interests they'll be more "proper", to use your word. Am I understanding you? If I discover that my interests aren't aligned to facilitate propriety, I should assume that my motivations are based on a false model of the world?
@aartist90
@aartist90 8 жыл бұрын
+Jordan B Peterson Very well said: "sub-optimal". And there I go again, seeing the world in conflicting opposites (true vs. false; altruistic vs. selfish). Have you read R. Buckminster Fuller's "Critical Path"? I think he talks about our need to get away from binary/linear thinking... I should take notes :P Anyways, thanks for your responses, and for your posts! I've grown a lot through your lectures, keep it up.

After many hours of listening to Peterson's words in many forms and places, I ultimately made up my mind or my own assessment of this person as he exists. Peterson in my opinion has potential however, he is not perfect. One should not blindly follow him just because he appears to appeal to couple of your ideas and belief system. The one thing that holds me back from symbolizing him as a great role model is his religious beliefs. My academic and scientific and analytical mind cannot look passed that religious dimension. This is a big issue because as you can see, or perhaps you cant, there is an uptick in the number paradoxes and contradictions that arise more so often than not as days go by and Peterson makes more and more content or speeches or headlines. For a seemingly reasonable and logical person as he appears to portray himself as, mixing his personal religious beliefs with the material he is spreading is the number one clue to being biased and therefore renders the meaning of whatever he is trying to do, meaningless and less valuable and often value-less altogether. One cannot pretend and act out as if they are pro freedom of speech when it comes to legislation and then try to inject his catholic beliefs in every material he propagates or every opportunity that presents itself. Why the Biblical series? Why Bible? How could you be so sure without being utterly ignorant to know that Bible is actually a source of anything let alone the one and only correct source? not only you come across as ignorant towards other supposedly holy books and religions but also extremely week in terms of basic logic that it becomes mentally difficult to even consider anything you say worthy of time and attention. I like Peterson. I am not a hater. He is gifted with a brilliant mind. He is clearly smart but smarts or intelligence does not guarantee morality or innocence. A well versed, great articulator of words and sentences, a brilliant educator, can and most often will, have an agenda of their own. This in my opinion is the greatest betrayal and dishonesty that one can have towards his or her kind. Peterson is smart and since he is pushing his own agenda, it appears that he is exploiting this fact to achieve personal goals. If it is still not clear to you how dangerous and important Peterson's image can be, then i have one last reason/attempt to enlighten you. This last point I am about to make is the punch line of this whole wall of text and I expect only the most analytical unbiased brains to understand it. That is: You cannot convince me to agree to a paradox, that is, you cannot have a society or government that practices freedom of speech while being none-secular. Think about that for a second. You want freedom of speech but you want everyone to adhere to your catholic views. There is no freedom of speech in religion. The very definition of religion is communistic in the core. creation, is communistic. "Thou shalt not ... " COMMUNISTIC!

You're very eloquent and all, but did you even see the biblical series?! He doesn't indoctrinate christianism... Everything that he talks about in the bible, he talks about in the most rational way possible about how those stories reflected our need to have values, morals and ethics established in a primitive society (and maybe still in todays time). He's NOT an advocate for blindly following any ideology, much less any religion... Also, he doesn't talk about other religions because he hasn't studied any religious book as deep and hard as he has with the bible. I strongly disagree with all that you said (wich is fine). I do not think he is paradoxical because he is rational, but christian... You can follow a religion for what it's mythology and symbology can teach you and not because you believe a man in the sky created everything and everyone! You don't honestly think Jordan Peterson believes in that, do you?! I just think you should maybe look at what you could learn from religion from a rational point of view, is all. (sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'm portuguese)
