This summer will have about no poker, but it will have a lot of dealing poker. I'm dealing the summer poker series at The Orleans on W Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 2024 Orleans Summer Open is the official name. Here are my tales.

You ALWAYS bring the antes in first. Lots of angling could happen. If there aren't the right amount of antes then you need to stop and figure out who is missing. If you start dealing you're only causing a big problem for yourself. It's not a matter of speed it's a matter of accountability on all players. Everything else can be done how you please. But, antes come in first then you cut and deal. You're thinking hold em. This is completely different and you wouldn't belive how many times in a session a player will say "Did I ante?". I play this game almost every weekend at borgata (in a small mix of two games).

Glad to see you in good spirits in this video, Rice. Over halfway done already! Do you have any plans set up for when you're done dealing or are you going to play it by ear for a couple of weeks?

Pots were probably big though. NL hands go quickly when it's raise pre and everyone folds.

If you grab the deck and something else make sure you don't "roll the deck" meaning letting it turn over. It is a game security violation that dealers are not supposed to let happen. Many dealers are sloppy and roll the deck regularly.

Procedure of ante games of shuffling, bringing in the antes, then cut and go goes more to accountability than speed, although it does enable the free use of both hands. I don’t consider this a hill to die on, and likely would not comment on it, certainly not rage. But yah, get in the habit of the proper procedure and avoid the splitting hairs altogether. High limit would definitely frown on deviating from this.

First day of HORSE, a veteran dealer told me to put out the count chip after I grabbed the deck. He didn't mention the antes, so I was doing it after that.
@thetrack4710

Good content, keep it up!! Collect the antes before you cut the deck. Once you cut the deck you’re leaving the top card exposed and should start dealing the cards immediately.
@VegasPokerNomad
@VegasPokerNomad Ай бұрын
Exposed? It seemed more vulnerable when the deck was just sitting there, not in my hand. That's why I liked to grab it first.

It’s been a while since I went to dealer school. I think it was the same reason you burn a card before putting out the flop. The back of the top card in the stub could possibly be marked. So dealing directly after the cut minimizes the time the back of the first card dealt will be exposed.

I walked by and said hello when I was playing NL 2-7. Agree with some of the commenters. Pull antes then cut the cards. Having a dealer with the deck in his/her hand when dragging antes would look odd to me. In the grand scheme of things does it matter? No.
@VegasPokerNomad
@VegasPokerNomad Ай бұрын
Yeah that makes sense. The first time I dealt HORSE, a veteran dealer was handing out the count chips and said to put one count chip out right after I grab the deck. He didn't mention antes. It just seemed like a natural sequence to do the deck first, then count chip because the guy told me, then "start the hand."

Shuffle, bring in antes, put out counter token, cut and pick up is "standard".

The first time I dealt HORSE, the dealer handing out the count chips told me as soon as I grab the deck, put out the count chip next thing. So I had been doing that: shuffle, cut, grab deck, count chip, antes.

Mostly shuffling. We only use the machines when all tables in the tournament have a working shuffler. None of the 24 temp tables have a shuffler. Even some in the room don't have one that works.
