I bought a $300 car, tore the front of the engine apart, and fixed it just to see if I could. I also lost 20-30 lbs and took on a 2nd job to pass the time since there was nothing better to do. And even then, both jobs were largely getting paid to sit around. My first job (auto mechanic) allowed me the space and time to fix my project since there were very few customers, and most of the few we had could be taken care of quickly.

@@adrenjones9301 I always refer people to the mouse utopia experiment. Give a living organism everything it needs, take away the need to fight for survival in all it's aspects and quickly it'll degenerate into a mess once you go a couple generations in that never had to really face existential threats. Traditions are solutions to problems we already solved and forgot, so there is always the question of "who said these were problems? do we even need the solution anymore?" so we drop it. (new owners bought the company, cleaned house (heh), you know how it goes) And I travelled cross country in my $1,200 shitty little Chevy S10. I had a cap on the bed and a bunch of camping gear, and slept in there most nights, with a few hotel nights sprinkled in to the two month excursion. I had a load of fun going new places, meeting new people, seeing cool sights. I also learned the joys of the truck stop shower. The water pressure is unreal, like, peel some layers of skin off powerful. I wish I could get that kind of power in my home shower.

Cosigned. Vacations are so much easier when you have fewer attachments and obligations. You just can't go to a resort, which I'm sure is the "only" vacation to these people. I have plenty of money now and can afford to go almost anywhere on vacation with enough planning... But somebody has to watch the dog, the house, we have to buy a ticket for the kid, and there's only so much time to feasibly take off from work (even though I could theoretically take a couple months off on paper, in practice I can't really)

I wonder if that woman realizes that the reason she has to pay so much in rent is because the Government Triple dips into landlords. They tax the money you pay them for living in their house as Income, even after taxing you Income tax. And then they double tax the house for being a rental property. And if the landlord doesn't pay the taxes, the government steals the land and then sells it off and you get evicted unilaterally. People who bitch about landlords, legitimately don't understand how rough it is actually trying to maintain and run rentals.

Yup. And every increase in property values means an increase in property TAXES, which ALSO means an increase in insurance rates for the home, which the landlord also has to pay. And then in order to still break even, much less turn a profit (not to mention putting at least 25% of the rent you pay towards property upkeep funds) the landlord has to increase rent.

The counterargument there is: then don’t be a landlord. It’s not necessary to have landlords at all because people could just buy the property instead of renting it. Most people can’t afford a housing unit now, but if an owner’s only option was to sell, they’d be forced to lower prices to something affordable in order to get a buyer; that’s how supply and demand works. Even if you have people who are making so little they never have than a few hundred dollars in their account, those people could get a loan at a high interest rate and still pay a similar amount as rent, without requiring a landlord to be involved

I agree with you to that point Dev, but my issue with the entire transgender game is in the implications on me as a normal person. If it's my policy to affirm all trans people then I'm linguistically warping my view of reality. I've always believed men and women are relevantly different. Sure technology alleviates some of those differences (although androgynous humanity is an aspect of dystopia) and that's probably a good thing. But when it comes to hormone dependency and cosmetic surgery, I simply can't lie about supporting a practice that I see is ultimately harmful to anyone. 9:34 This entire situation is the result of an affirmative process where people do not tell them "No" at any step of the way, and counselling about the situation is insufficient, leading to people making permanent decisions that they were completely unprepared for and consequences of their actions only really occurring to them when it is too late. In other words, this "grown adult" who cannot deal with the weight of her decisions, was not actually functioning in an adult capacity in the pertinent areas of her life at any step of this process, else this process would have most likely been cancelled or would have definitely proceeded differently. And that's why the patient is acting the way she is. She has deep seated issues that have been avoided by those who should have been helping her with it because people think the process they are going through is going to cure her of these issues, so I don't she was behaving as a rational agent when she made her own decisions. I have more I could say on this topic, but a KZbin comments section isn't the place for such a discussion, and my honest and complete opinion would definitely come off as Transphobic to the uneducated or the moderation bots. I think you're take is bad on this one Dev. I understand where you're coming from, from a principled standpoint, but I don't think the situation is as free and honest as you frame it. You deserve the consequences of your actions made as a rational agent... But I don't think her decisions were made as a rational agent. My wife's sister made a huge stink about how unfair and oppressive it is that she as an 18 year old woman wasnt allowed to have her tubes removed(iirc 35 in CO). She hated babies and swore she wouldnt have any. Fast forward a few years and she's in a LTR, and nothing on the way but much more happy around kids and no longer complaining about that stuff. As a society we realized that even though 18 is an "adult" you are still plenty young and dumb and allowing them to stetilize themselves is going to lead to a lot of regret and heartache as they get older. The trans issue is more complex, but there is an element of hypocrisy in allowing one but not the other.

I have a sister who had a similar complaint and, as far as I know, removed herself from the gene pool as soon as she was legally allowed. She believed it should be a crime to have children unless the world is a utopia. But she is someone who has always put her activism before her life to the extent she was almost kicked out of her doctorate program (or at least losing her benefits) because she spent so many semesters protesting instead of working on her thesis.

The one nurse, i dont think she was saying to ban it but rather be allowed to say "hey, this is permanent and here is what that actually means..." or other like, actual medical advice and awareness that you are normally told with literally every other surgery. Like go in for something that is easy and safe, they still have to list off or give you a list of all the ways things may go wrong and alert you to chance of death is there.

Regarding the lady that made her date pay her, not only did she make him pay $100 as a "small inconvenience fee" when the reason he cancelled was his car was broken into, but if you read further, *SHE* was originally planning on cancelling the date herself due to "not feeling like it" and decided not to tell him so she could get some quick cash. 0% sympathy. 100% narcissist. The biggest idiot in that situation was the guy for going along with it. If your girl is all looks and no heart, she isn't worth jack.

Considering the state of the LBGT "community", I think a lot of them are getting to the point they do not understand the difference between the different groups. As far as I can tell, especially after asking someone who identifies as such, queer just means 'I want to be under the LBGT umbrella.' I just really found the first person funny because I think if there is one thing conservatives are worried about are gays procreating.

@cp1cupcake

A lot of how much the cost of living is in comparison to wages is entirely location based. I lived in a place where you could buy a small prefab house with a kitchen/washing room, 2 bedrooms, and a decent sized foyer for less than the most of 6 months rent in the big city around a 2 hour drive away. I knew a guy who bought more than one, placed them next to each other, and knocked out some of the connecting walls.

@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz What changed was taxes on the wealthy and corporations plus the growth of labour unions. With the loss of tax revenue, the governments cut subsidies and shifted the burden of things like higher education and healthcare from the wealthy to the middle class. Labour unions run up costs so that a car that has only a few hundred dollars worth of materials in it has 20 or 30 times that in labour costs. The government used to subsidize housing projects but now it is a investment commodity. The main thing, however, is the unsustainable economic priority for ever higher profits. It is no longer enough for a corporation to be profitable. They must show greater profits from one quarter to the next. This is not sustainable and collapse is inevitable. If the profits were 1% higher in Q2 than Q1, then they need to be 2% higher in Q3. This can only be achieved through self-immolation.

"Most of us can't just pick up a new hobby because we have to save up for the materials" Yes, that's a good thing. Some of the best hobbies I have, I would have given up within 3 months if I hadn't dropped a bunch of money on the stuff I needed, and at that point I was invested. You know the paradox of choice? That doesn't just apply to netflix and cereal, that happens with everything. If you can switch hobbies every week with no consequences, you _will_ be less happy, and you will never get good at any of your hobbies. But these people lack the dedication to shower daily, they definitely can't stick with a hobby for more than a month even with the financial commitment involved, so I guess it's the same result for them either way. If you want to be happy, pick a small number of things and put everything you have into them, even when you don't feel like it. This applies to hobbies, relationships, and most other big decisions in life.
