Pay n Pak and Budweiser crashes

Pay 'n Pak and Miss Budweiser crashes from the early 1980s. Both are in slow motion and with the Budweiser crash, the rudder is highlighted as it shears off the boat.
Both drivers survived.

Not the 70's. Early 1980's. I was at Lake Washington when the jet boat flipped. That was '82. Dean Chenowith is driving the Bud in this video. I don't think this is the crash that killed him, though.

You're right. I boo-booed on the time frame. Indeed Dean survived that crash.

I believe Chenoweth crashed the Griffon Bud three times: once in '79 when he was going for the speed record, once in '80 during a qualifying run a couple days prior to Seafair and the third and last time in '82 in the Tri-cities. I'm not sure which one is being shown in the vid but it looks like the '80 crash based on pictures I've seen of it.

@@madcapper6 I wondered if that was the accident also my Grandmother had same maiden name and family wasn’t to many town from Dean. That was in the tri cities in the late 70s/80s you could walk up and touch the boats thinking I need to go find a chenowith and muncey auto. Wish they’d bring that era back

Did you know what the U-12 Budweiser, that was the "arch nemesis" of the U-25 Pay'n'Pak in the early-mid 1970's, was originally the Pay'n'Pak boat that proceeded the U-25? Its true. Not sure if it was the one that had the two Chrysler Hemi's, but Herrensperger sold it to Bernie Little and they raced each other for at least another 3 or 4 years until the aluminum boat was sold to The Atlas Van Lines people and replaced with the jet boat.

@@DeanMk1 That boat and the one with the twin Hemis are one in the same. Just found that out myself a couple weeks ago when I was inquiring about that boat I only knew of all these years as the Bud and was asking what became of it. I got a little history lesson thrown into the deal of the origins of the boat prior to becoming the Bud in '73. You wouldn't know it was the same boat just by looking at it.
