Payday 3 is Officially Chalked

Starbreeze thinks they can provide significantly less support to Payday 3 and shift focus to their next Project: Baxter (DnD style RPG) which is licensed by Wizards of the Coast. Their last attempt at an established franchise and new entry to the series was Overkill’s The Walking Dead, which was unceremoniously cancelled. Now, it seems like they are repeating the same mistakes that may well be the nail in the coffin for this company. Instead of sticking to a formula they are good at, they’ve decided to tackle a genre dominated by games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Elden Ring as of late. I’m here to watch the collapse. I have zero confidence in upper management to successfully steer that game or Payday 3 back on the right track.

There's... More. Connor Shaw uploaded a video last week. It's about how Starbreeze got to the current situation. At the end he mentioned something I believe we've all had forgotten about - all the way back in 2016, Bo Andersson had signed a deal with 505 Games, or more accurately - their parent company, Digital Bros, to return all rights to Payday IP back to Starbreeze. However, they would have to pay 505 or DB 40 million dollars in 33% of Payday 3's total revenue. Not only Payday 3 is not making this much money and costs quite a lot to keep going, Starbreeze still haven't paid anything out of these 40000000$. Maybe I wouldn't have panicked if there wasn't evidence pointing out that the deadline of this contract is most likely the end of THIS VERY YEAR! I have no idea what Digital Bros have in plans for Payday 3. Are they going to sell the IP, continue its development under its bander, or shut it down and let Payday be forgotten? I understand that it may not have an impact on Payday 3's development, but considering how crazy this week was for Payday fans, we can expect anything.

@@JaNieWie Let’s think about this critically. If Starbreeze can’t turn around Payday 3 after the next few expansions and gain an influx in sales in that short span, what does that incentivize Deep Silver to implement? You guess it, micro transactions. And other monetization methods. A quick way to gain a buck and tarnish what reputation Starbreeze has left. I’m calling it now, like I did months ago. It’s only a matter of time.

Worst part is, even if the current CEO wanted to turn things around, he probably couldn't because the hasbro deals were 100% signed before he was put into his position and I doubt there's much leeway if any for delaying the project, depending on how the contract even was. It's a lose/lose/lose situation

@@antynomity I have a feeling the team will put their all into the next updates, just for players to “boycott” or leave all together, further cementing potential legal actions and ownership ramifications over the IP. People say “don’t doom post”, but I also live in reality and this doesn’t look good on any timeline.

I knew it would fail as soon as I heard online connection requirement. Then not changing the armor system, doubling down on the bad systems, the inexcusable launch, baffling nerfs, no communication for almost a year, not even considering to listen to the people who keep them alive as a company and the straight lies told to the customers. I still don't even believe they fixed the servers. Enough people dropped the game to fix the situation and they took credit. Add taking it off GamePass and Payday 3 is done. They should've refunded, scrapped it and worked on the actual third game. I'm not renting a game at full price. Especially that game. Payday 3 was done in at launch and will not recover. I'll never forget Amir being asked "What happens if the servers goes down?" And answered "They won't ". What happened on launch day? Launch week? Week and a half? The servers couldn't handle it. Crazy. Almost like it was seen before it happened. They doubled down. Payday 3 is a game that needs to be taught and studied in schooling for game development, in what not to do when making a game.

Starbreeze sucks. No point beating around the bush, low tier developer, toxic player base, micro transaction infested game. The fact that they havent gone under after the shit show payday clone the walking dead is baffling. The first Payday was interesting, the second one was good, but they wanted to annoy and milk the toxic player base with pointless large updates and who know what else. I absolutely ignored Payday 3, dont even care about Starbreeze as a developer, harsh i know, but the piece of shit company needs an internal shake up, its got bad management written all over it.

I didn’t engage with the community much, only to share my hatred of Bo Anderson😂 For me it’s hard to not root for the developers of one of my favorite co-op games, despite the troubles they keep facing. I think they couldn’t have been back by a worse company than Deep Silver (one of the worst companies is gaming history). The likelihood that this think is on life support in about 8 to 10 months is very high, and although Starbreeze are not completely innocent in the matter I can’t help but feel for the team who tried their best.

@Anymin I’ve said it a hundred times, but you have one chance to make a good first impression, especially with these types of games. When that impression is horrible, you can basically wrap up any substantial success as the games industry never forgets.

@ Exactly, i've already had a bad impression on the company/team long before payday 3 was announced. So a bad launch just made it something that shouldn't even be on one's mind. Sadly it looks like a hole they dug too far deep for themselves and I don't see a way out, even playing devil's advocate as much as i can, so someone else with no or less baggage and debt has to build a bridge over their grave to bring the concept back i suppose

i wish i could agree with you unfortunately your opinion is not taken into consideration because you play the finals all seriousness now, this game failing would have made me fall into a deep depression if i was still big on payday when it released sucks everything that happened happened
