Thank you for your comparison...but the audience the new Kindle Scribe is going after is e-ink users. Amazon is changing the game to compete against reMarkable 2, Onyx Boox, Supernote and Note Air users, to name a few. I love my Samsung Tablet (the android version of your iPad) but they don't compare to the writing experience or crisp, clear reading you get with e-ink tablets. I love my reMarkable 2 AND I am also a Kindle fan/ owner as well...but I look forward to adding the Kindle Scribe to my mix because I can annotate AND read my Kindle books. If you want to do a fair comparison, do a side-by-side with the top players in e-ink. That is what e-ink fans are paying attention to right now.

I just got my Scribe, and for notetaking and reading it's great. I also have an iPad Pro (3 yrs old). I don't see the Scribe as a competitor to the iPad, they are for different scenarios. I use the iPad for all the things I can't do on the Kindle.

At 3:55, if you want to browse the web using kindle scribe, there's a button under the 3-dot on the upper right to turn the page into "Article Mode" which would make it so much easier to read.

I have always loved kindles and have several models from the first one. I bought this one too. I never thought I would take notes on it anyway but I thought the larger screen would be a plus. I find the larger screen is a problem, however. Reading at the distance I do you have to move your eyes along the longer line and even your head a tiny bit to read the bottom or top line with the smaller Kindle you don't have to do that. However, you can make the font much larger and still have more text on the screen so less page turning. I do love the adaptive lighting and the warm backlight which is easier on your eyes in a dark room. I have only had it for 3 days now but kind of wish I had not bought it. I will keep it and I hope to find more good things about it.

I have the 6.8” Paperwhite only reason I got it instead of the 6” (what I think is the ideal portable ereader) is because the light temp adjustment was a must for me. I think the first Scribe should have been in that smaller size so it was adding the note taking capability to the ereader, rather than creating a notetaking device that was also an ereader. I know a bunch of people will disagree since no one wants to read textbooks on the small kindle, however until it has color I think many will continue to use tablets to read textbooks. The bigger size has a place, I’m sure, but as the flagship device I think they missed the mark.

There are multiple anti-glare covers for the iPad that remove most of the advantages of the kindle for reading and eye-strain - battery still much worse but you have colour and much better pinch-to-zoom. Writing is also better as well with the screen cover. Ipad screen still has flicker though, so not so great for late night reading.

I have tried both the Scribe, and the Boox Note Air3 C. In my experience, e-Ink of any kind complements my IOS devices and MacBook Pro, rather than replacing them. That said, the one that gained the most traction was the Scribe, and the one that saw the greatest reduction in use, was the iPad. The Scribe is a lighter, less distracting and more attractive experience when it comes to print media consumption.

Just re-bought the Scribe. Rejected it in November because of the limited app support, but disliked the full-on Android experience w/Boox. In retrospect, the Scribe was addictive and got my face out of my iPad. The Boox NA3C did not. The brighter screen and better left-hander experience are what hooked me. Also, the last round of Scribe firmware updates helped a lot.

It’s funny, I’ve owned every Kindle to include the oasis and many of their fires. With all the hype on iPads, I finally decided to break down and buy one for about $500 on Amazon. My students said I could do all kinds of awesome things on it to include grading papers. It just didn’t do anything for me. I didn’t find it intuitive. I didn’t find it useful, and admittedly, I’m much more of a newbie with an iPad than I am with anything that Amazon put out. I ended up giving my iPad to my son-in-law and buying the new scribe. I absolutely love it! If it comes to things that a fire, Kindle or an iPad Can do with regard to streaming videos, etc.. I can use my phone for that or my Chromebook. I just love the scribe and I got an offbrand composition cover which works just great. I highly recommended especially with all of the Kindle scribe only options for daily planners, drawing, games, like crossword puzzles. Best of all I think it is easy and intuitive. So while I appreciate your input, and I know you guys are the experts as far as I’m concerned, this was the right purchase for me.

Guys, you obsiously don't like reading at all. Reading from the IPad screen is not a pleasant excercise for your eyes. I've both Ipad and Kindle Scribe. The latest allows you to drop PDF documents as they are, without converting and to study them on a big e-ink screen without raping your eyes. It also helps you to read more books, highlighting them more smoothly and building vocabulary effectively. Cheers!

I know this is an old comment, but still. You can't annotate Kindle books without that clunky post-it overlay. PDFs is fine. The point of the iPad is it's multipurpose. It would make more sense to get a Paperwhite or any other cheaper model instead of the Scribe if you already have an iPad, and if reading books on an e-ink screen is important.

I love my Kindles. I had an IPad at one time but I didn't find it "friendly". I hope you compare the Scribe to the ReMarkble, because I have that also and found the Scribe from your demo to be more like the ReMarkle. Although you can't download the books on the Remarkable, so many of the other features were similar. I like the ReMarkable.

I use a Microsoft Surface Go 2 with a pen and the Kindle app and I think I can do everything you are trying to do with the scribe and the iPad combined. And it is far cheaper than either of those two. And it runs Windows 11, so I guess it's not distraction free, but I can take one device when I go out of town and can do laptop stuff and e-reader stuff on one device. Try it out.

For what a well appointed Scribe costs, you could just buy an Ipad 9th gen and Kindle Oasis. There's a reason e-ink displays aren't used for anything that needs to be real time. For me, I use my Kindle for pleasure reading because it's flat out the best device bar none for that. For reading reference or text books, the Ipad rocks. Notes and highlighting are easy and fluid.

I have an iPad Pro I use for school. I think the issue is that there isn't a perfect note taking app, so I use One Note exclusively. I used to use Apple Notes or whatever came with it, but it wasn't great. I was excited to see this because I get PDFs for guided notes that I import into One Note and write on, but it sucks to write on homework sent in PDF form and print it without a ton of work resizing and such. Still, I'll have to pass on the Scribe. It's just not there yet. I have to agree about the textbooks. If garbage could defecate, you'd get an Engineering textbook.

You know how some people say “I don’t have a horse in this race?” Well I have both….I have a Kindle and I have the 9 inch iPad 9 you mentioned. I love them both. I won’t get rid of either of them. But two of the problems you mentioned with the iPad can be at least lessened with the same item. You mentioned not being able to read it outside and you mentioned the glass being so smooth that it makes the Pencil feel weird, not like it’s writing on paper. I got a matte screen protector for my iPad. If I turn the brightness all the way up, I can now read just fine with no glossy factor. It also makes the Pencil feel amazingly like it’s writing on paper. I love the iPad now for reading Kindle books….It does out-scribe the Scribe. However, I’ll keep my Kindle because if I’m riding with someone in the car or going to be waiting in a waiting room or going to the gym and reading while on the bike, or going to a friend’s, it’s the better option. (Should have mentioned, my Kindle is the Paperwhite….obviously there is no portability difference if I had the Scribe).

I suppose it is fair to compare the two devices since that is what most people will do even though they are completely different in purpose and function, which I think to made a good effort it clarifying. Just reading the title of this video made me laugh. I didn't even have to watch this video to know that the Kindle Scribe is as much of an iPad killer as it is a PS5 killer, a Nintendo Switch killer, a PC killer, and an Oculus Quest 2 killer. It's a kindle. Repeat a Kindle. I myself love Kindle's and my current model is the newer Paperwhite, but let's be honest here, It may offer some extremely rudimentary or basic writing ability, but it's still 90% a Kindle reader. It is like comparing a new landline wireless phone that now has the ability to take low res black and white photos to the newest iPhone Pro Max. Yes it can make phone calls and you can take grainy low res photos with it, but that's it, it's a one trick pony and can't do any of the other 1001 things the iPhone can. There is no comparison vs an iPad. You can however compare it to other e-reader/writers now like the ReMarkable 2.

Actually the keys of a real keyboard are positioned to align badly with your fingers (misaligned rows on e.g. Apple's touch keyboard as opposed to an aligned grid layout on e.g. physical keyboards from Kinesis). This unfortunate "mistake" on most touch and physical keyboards today is due to the way vintage typewriters worked :(

I think the biggest problem with the Kindle Scribe is that it's based on whatever operating system Kindle uses, instead of FireOS, Amazon's fork of Android. There are already e-ink tablets which use Android, such as the Boox Tab Ultra, and they are considerably more useful. For starters, there are a number of non Amazon reading apps available, including for instance The Economist, New York Times, etc which have Android tablet optimized views, and which interested buyers may want. Additionally, there are far more notes apps available, most of which have EMR stylus support (the tech the Kindle Scribe uses), some of which support customized line and grid widths, and uploading to popular services, including the ones jobs may use. Finally, thanks to being able to support mobile email clients, various cloud sync services, and a standard browser, downloading and syncing of documents is far less of an issue. Also on an unrelated note, there are numerous matte screen protectors for the iPad that enable a paper like feel for about $5/ per protector. I have one on my iPad, and it works really well.

I Bought the kindle scribe one day one, i am an iPad Pro user. The kindle scribe is closer to paper feeling, but me having a neat handwriting is kind of a bummer with the kindle. The handwriting is bad with the kindle, is like writing in an 16 bit screen. Very disappointed with the kindle, too expensive for what it is specially having an iPad. I think it is more of a ReMarkable Tablet competitor. I have the ReMarkable 2 and it is almost useless. It is so difficult for me to see in most light situations. The fact that the Kindle Scribe is backlit is a game changer for me.

Remarkable has been the first to try it. And they made a lot of mistakes. BigMe is doing great stuff on the other side.

This is why a lot of people are waiting anxiously to see how far Amazon goes with Scribe firmware updates. Remarkable and Supernote have note taking, text recognition, etc., dialled. But they both stink in low-light situations. Meanwhile, the 300dpi display and automated front light system on the Scribe put them to shame.

Did you notice any scratching on the Kindle Scribe?

The main and sole advantage of the Kindle is that you can use it in a sunny environment. An iPad wont show you a thing in such an environment. Even with brightness max'ed. So the Kindle is imo a niche product in that respect.

Lack of OCR is a deal breaker; if I write (& I usually speak or type) I want it to translate into typed text. Also I want the tablet to work like a tablet to the extent that I can long press & do a browser search, which I do constantly (like Cuddles from "The Cleaner" I like documentaries/non-fiction). Here in Aus. I can get the Scribe 2nd hand from a reputable eDevice dealer for $450 aud, and a 1st gen. Surface Go for $155 aud.; e-ink is easy on the eyes & I have a slight vision impairment, so I like lge txt (a 6" screen is frustrating for page turns), but Microsoft has an excellent Kindle experience (ARE the screens different from Android iOS tablets?) & it does everything I want it to do as reader interaction with ease; that does not seem to be the case with the Scribe. So, it's either my HP laptop or a Go; I'd prefer e-ink, but none of the 10" tablet versions seem to be a tenable option.

Please please do a video about the AIRPLANE MODE. I know all the benefits of it BUT it can DAMAGE your cellular data connector on your phone and your mobile data as well. I am stressing out about this. I thought that airplane mode can’t damage in any way your phone.

I don't think its fair to compare devices like e-readers to general purpose tablets like iPads. E-reader devices serve a specific purpose. It would be like trying to compare a game console to a desktop/laptop computer. Yeah, game consoles can't do as much as a desktop/laptop can, but that's because they're designed for a specific purpose.
