It’s just really nice to see all the decent human beings you are creating. Too many people have kids and do nothing to ensure their children grow up to be rational, kind, and hardworking people. Not a big fan of religion myself, but in my opinion you and Solo are totally nailing it as parents. Your kids are so compassionate and intelligent. That doesn’t happen by accident. Keep doing you. It’s obviously working. And it’s nice to know that your children are going to grow up and enter the world someday as adults and spread the love and compassion you’ve taught them. Gives me hope for humanity.

We raised and homeschooled 19 kids - and we started homeschooling so long ago I needed teaching credentials to homeschool our kids. Things have changed since those days (thank Heavens). Each child is different and has different needs - for instance, 2 of ours are autistic and one is deaf... they had very different needs than our other children. If you are very new to homeschooling Amy Maryon here on KZbin has a homeschooling website that gives you curriculum up through high school and it's an excellent curriculum IME. Oh and we are NOT Catholic.. we are Native American. 16 of our children are adopted. :)

@reneematlock9657
@reneematlock9657 3 жыл бұрын
@@simplymelaurad9643 I saw your question late last night and had to give what you asked some thought before I replied. Both of our neurodivergent children had some delays but we "worked around" both their delays AND their strengths. I also did NOT allow myself (or them) to be pushed into trying to teach our neurodivergent children to ACT neurotypical but rather worked to teach the neurotypical to ACCEPT our neurodivergent children as their delightfully, wonderfully, wildly, awesomely weird selves. We didn't have a particular curriculum we followed after the first 3 or 4 years (back when I had to have a teaching certificate & follow the Public School curriculum) but I also spent a LOT of time with the state guidelines for each grade we had figuring out how to teach within those guidelines to the kids' strengths and interests. For instance: our neurodivergent son was absolutely obsessed with the ISS a few years ago so for about 6 months Math, science, history, geography, social studies, English and even foreign language lessons *for him* absolutely revolved around the ISS. At the same time, his twin sister (who is neurotypical) was absolutely fascinated with all things medical so her lessons revolved around medicine. One of our other children's lessons at the same time revolved around music theory. Now, I should explain here, we did the tailoring of lessons to child because I learned early on that if the children were INTERESTED in what they were learning they weren't just memorizing but rather actually LEARNING. We also did NOT follow the school system calendar and the kids worked at *their* pace (meaning if the child met the guidelines for passing a particular grade in January I moved them on to the next grade instead of keeping them in a "holding pattern" for 9 months - because that is just a waste of time and energy) If you want to give homeschooling your son a try... take a look at Amy Maryon's homeschool site (Search for her here on YT and then look under her videos - she almost always posts a link to her homeschool site) and look at the curriculum she has up for his "grade" level. It's an excellent curriculum and it will allow you to "get your toes wet" in homeschooling without having to either build curricula specifically to your son OR having to purchase a bunch of different things to figure out what "works" for him. Hugs and keep asking questions.

@@simplymelaurad9643 Homeschooling, for all it may look easy from the outside, is HARD. Homeschooling a neurodivergent child is harder. Don't make it harder on yourself by NOT asking questions. I'd rather take the time to answer what *you* (or someone else) may think is a "silly question" than I would have you (or someone else) flailing around trying to come up with answers but only being given the neurotypical answers (which never apply to our weirdly, wildly, wonderfully, delightfully awesome neurodivergent children) and frustrating both you and your child. Frustration isn't learning nor is it helpful, so avoid it where possible. Remember that every child is different and it may take you a little time to figure out what *works best* for your child and your family. We did what worked for our family. Remember as well that advice is just advice... it's NOT "set in stone" so take what you think will "work" for your family and leave what you don't think will "work" for your family.

What you're talking about at the end, "walking in faith and the Lord meeting you where you are and taking you further" in Arabic is called "barakah". Barakah literally means blessings, but it also means that what you have (money, time, space in your house) expands and multiplies when it is intentionally used for good or for His sake. May God put barakah in your earnings, time, energy, home and all things you use in service of Him.

In response to the person who was asking Sarah and Solo about homeschooling: As an educator (Gr. 3-12) and a music educator, I highly recommend finding someone who will give your child Music lessons. Music education skills spill over into Language, Math, communication and general education disciplines in so many ways! So often, parents and schools think of Music education as an 'add-on' when it's actually essential!

Yes! You have to be very intentional about it. While my family was in a great financial position this time last year until April when my husband got laid off (he was the money maker) but in those 4 months we were able to pay off my car & some credit cards. We kept budgeting as much as we could on unemployment but got so depressed because we just couldn’t/can’t make ends meet a lot of the time & racked up more credit card debt. We stopped budgeting. We didn’t intentionally stop but we stopped being intentional about sitting down weekly and reviewing things. It was too depressing for us! We just started back up again last week & while it’s still depressing because we just don’t have money & my husband is still searching for a job but we live in a state where even restaurants are still closed so things aren’t available. My husband is literally only being home about 10% of what he was making. He had the job that paid very well for 4 months and we just threw all money at debts. Previous to that he had good jobs and we were able to pay bills but not really save or do anything but keep making normal payments. I keep praying that he’ll snag another job here soon. He’s become so depressed because we want to have children (my son is 13 & my husband & I got married last January) and buy a house but our credit that we built is wrecked. - that was long & didn’t mean for it to be. Long morning already haha Anyways the moral of the story is you have to consciously think about the budget. At all times whenever you’re spending money. Also some banks have smaller little “envelope” accounts that you can name anything you want. It’s SO helpful when budgeting.

We had the same question for our financial advisor concerning investing vs paying off the house early. We settled on both - money towards paying off the house in 12 years and money towards investing for the goal of retiring early in 12 years. But to solos point ....we didn’t get to this point until we had all debts including cars paid off etc and also investing in our 401ks first and foremost. I can’t take full credit for this - my dad urged me to begin preparing for retirement very very early. It can take some sacrifice - we drive used paid off vehicles forever for example. Yes we could get the newest but somehow retiring super early and just enjoying life sounds so much better then a brand new car in my mind.

On the other end of the spectrum it’s not easy for us childfree people either. I constantly get harassed about my decision not to have kids. I’ve been to seven different doctors trying to get sterilized and they all tell me that I’ll change my mind someday. I’m 37 and decided at 13 being a mom was not for me, but since women aren’t allowed to feel that way according to society at large the judgement is never ending. The harassment and condemnation is never ending. I often resort to lying and telling people I’m infertile just to get them off my back about popping out some progeny. I have nothing but respect for GOOD parents who take on the task of creating and nurturing a whole new human being, but I think society as a whole needs to stop viewing parenthood and having children as a right. It’s not. It’s a responsibility. A responsibility to that child and to the world they will one day interact with as an adult. The biggest and most difficult responsibility anyone can ever take on. One I took a hard pass on. Solo and Sarah are amazing parents and I wish more parents were like them. The world would be a much nicer place. I firmly believe if more parents were like these two there wouldn’t be any school shootings or bullying or eating disorders or serial killers and so on. People need to stop having kids just because they can. If you can’t be a patient, kind, and selfless parent like these two who do everything they can in their power to uplift their children and ensure they are growing into good people don’t procreate.

Thank you for speaking about having Faith. So many times we can look back in our families years and have seen how God blessed us even more and move when we were praying but couldn’t see it. God moves in ways we don’t always see. Remember It’s God’s timing not ours. I, too, homeschool, after leaving a teaching career of 20 years, a child of special needs. Every day I pray I’m doing what my son needs. I pray God will be with Him and guide my son as he becomes an adult. I pray my son will be able to independent and provide for himself. Stepping out in faith in homeschooling was HUGE for me... but it has been blessing that I couldn’t see at the time. Thank Lord for always looking out for your children.

My 15 yo soon to be 16 next month asked to start on line virtual learning in the 7th grade. First due to her high anxiety, bullies and just fear of the meanness we live with. I agreed and we joined K12 7 to 9 and 10th she wanted to go local school but virtual. So we live in a rural town and are country folk. She had a teacher that told a story in class about a past student that was so kind, generous and so studious. When time came to do his in class resume all he had was he hauled hay. She was real nasty about it and said that she had never been more disappointed than at that moment knowing that she had given so much to a boy who came to school to breathe air and haul hay. My baby was in tears and literally cried herself to sleep. I said enough! So after winter break I took her out of that school and back into virtual learning! I monitor and she has been on goal at 99% since school began again and I am so happy and proud to see her smile before, during and after school. Sorry so long!! Love, Blessings and HUGS, Marilyn

That’s what we did. We had 30 year mortgage turned it into 15 year mortgage. Ended up paying couple hundred less and ended up paying the 15 years off in seven years because we took the extra we had and paid it towards the the mortgage not the interest.

Consider Facebook if you haven’t already to learn of other homeschoolers. Maybe people over the border and close. Call local libraries to see if they can connect you with others. I’m in a larger area but our library connects homeschoolers. Schools are pretty busy these days, but under other circumstances call the public schools to see if they can put you in touch with homeschoolers that might be using their facilities. Look at other you tubers. A country life homeschools. I don’t think they are near you, in WI, but they might be able to help. Then, there are others not in WI. Jamerill might be able to provide resources. A Catholic mom’s life might be able to point you in a direction of finding others even if you don’t share the same religion.

I desperately needed to hear one part of your answer from the first question! I have been homeschooling for 7 years and I don't do well with making my boys write papers. My youngest, 11 year old, despises it. My oldest, 14 year old, is self-admittedly lazy, but does well when if he applies himself. However, they excell everywhere else so your story gives me hope. Thank you for putting yourselves out there as a guiding light for us all. I always look forward to your videos.

We were SO blessed as a couple in their late 20’s with two sons we bought a two year old custom built home , lived there about 35 years, and sadly, had no savings, now after retiring from the railroad working there 42 years, we sold our large home, moved to a much smaller home in another state, we were able paid cash for our home, our cars are paid for and other than a few credit cards we are doing fine. We are striving to pay off the credit debt, should be later this year or early 2022. I would love to know what I know now , and go back to our early years in marriage. It would really have been helpful, hind sight is 20/20👍🏻

I just want to say that I loved your answer on vaccines! I have very similar beliefs about it. I chose to vaccinate at first and my two oldest boys were both injured from them. Vaccines didnt react well with my childrens genetics and I have since had 2 more children (with a total of 4 boys) 2 were vaccinated and had reactions and the other 2 have been vaccine free since they were born and are happy, healthy and thriving. I absolutely agree that it needs to be a choice. I cant imagine if someone tried to force me to do it to my younger boys and potentially have the same reactions and delayes that we have been struggling with my older 2 for years now... there must always be choice because all our genetics react differently to vaccines. I fully support anyone who vaccinated or not and glad vaccines can help for many people. A choice is a necessity for people who dont react well. There must always be a choice! Please help us pray on that! 🙏💕

How did it injure them?
@KelsieElizabeth
@KelsieElizabeth 3 жыл бұрын
@@story.allegory both had negative reactions. I don't like to get into too much detail but my 2nd born regressed completely after his 1 year shots. He lots all his words and his eye contact. He cried and whined constantly for months on end. He is almost 4 now and still completely non verbal. He only communicates by pulling your hand towards what he wants and making grunting sounds and crying. My oldest reactions wasnt quite as severe (which is why I thought it would be safe to try again on my 2nd born) he is 7 now and was formally diagnosed with OCD, ADHD, ASD sensory sensitivities and was only speech delayed but not non verbal. Like I said l, my 2nd born reacted much worse and has been labed non verbal and is still getting ready to go through his evaluation in the next year for his formal diagnosis. My 2 year old and almost 1 year old both speak and communicate better than my 4 year old. It has been heartbreaking watching him struggle everyday. I'm so glad vaccines can help some people but I feel with my whole heart that, at least in our case. The vaccines reacted adversely with my childrens genetics.

@KelsieElizabeth
@KelsieElizabeth 3 жыл бұрын
@@story.allegory well to be honest. I had noticed mild regressions with his other couple shots he had before He received several just after his birthday all in one day and he seemed okay within the first 24 hours but kinda seemed sick and didnt want to play or interact much. I'd say it was pretty soon after, within the first week or so he had regressed and lost all the few words he did know. He stopped waving bye bye and giving 5s too. Pretty much stopped smiling and became very introverted and was almost like a totally different kid. He has come a long way but we think he may have to learn to communicate with a tablet/ communication device. He never picked up on sign language really either.

So true about focusing on reading will make good writers. My youngest really struggled with writing, so we reduced it for him and did a lot more oral. He went to firefighting college and ended up tutoring other students on writing assignments. He was so proud of himself and of me for allowing him to learn in his own way. It was scary because I wasn’t sure I was doing the right thing.
