Driving around the town of Payson Arizona. We check out the antique store drive the main streets and then head north towards the Mogollon Rim. We also check out some of the neighborhoods around Payson and the Real Estate market.
Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona feel free to subscribe and check us out on our other channels.

I was born in Payson, AZ in 1980. I moved to Massachusetts a year later where I have been for the last 41 years. Lately I've been wondering what my birth place looks like. Thanks so much for giving me some insight. I really appreciate it 🙏

I live in Payson and it is a nice place to be except on summer weekends. That's when everyone leaves Phoenix and comes up to the mountains, up on the Rim. Want a cup of coffee? Forget about it. Want to go out and have breakfast? Forget about it. On Sunday afternoon, HWY 260 is stop and go for a few miles. The stores have lines around the shelves two or three times and the gas stations look like crowded car lots.Every garbage can is overflowing. We need a bypass around Payson but I'm sure the business owners stop that. I don't blame them but the thing is, Payson is projected to double in population in the next ten years. There are going to be some serious growing pains in Payson very soon. I'm third generation Arizonian and I hate to see this happen. I'll be heading for open spaces soon where no one wants to live. Is there any land for sale way over on the back side of the Grand Canyon, right on the edge? Let me know.

@Melissa, Payson doesn't usually get snow. If and when they do, it's out of the norm. Their motto is "above the heat, below the snow", referring to their elevation-climate. (The poster doesn't know enough: they did get a very unusual snow this past February (2019), so the poster was likely making a misjudgment by that.) Nearby areas, Strawberry, Pine, Star Valley, do get snow because they are at much higher elevations up on the Rim, but Payson is below the Mogollon Rim, in the transition zone between the high country and the desert further south. It sits at what in Arizona is considered a moderate elevation, and has historically had moderate weather and temperatures with it, warm but not scalding in the summertime, and cold but not snowy in the winter, not frigid. It's within easy distance of the high country for great summertime vacation camping and fishing trips, beautiful roadtrips, Ponderosa Pine country along the Mogollon Rim, a Spanish name that's pronounced Moe goy own', having all Long-O sounds, the double-L always being spoken like a Y. (The poster mispronounced it as most Arizonans do.) Payson has everything from apartments to condos, mobile homes to cabins to middle class homes to high dollar country club estates on golf courses. As a whole, Arizona has lower housing costs than a lot of states, and people coming from the northeast and California are shocked at the low housing prices, but within the state, Payson's housing prices, along with Flagstaff and Prescott (all in beautiful country), are higher, enough to make Tucsonans raise their eyebrows. (Tucson has very low housing prices.) You might enjoy my large Arizona playlist, an organized video tour of much of the state, though the playlist doesn't go into that kind of detail about Payson or housing costs. The playlist shows the beauty of the various areas of the state.

CA Catr thank you so much for the explanation about the snow. We’re honestly considering Payson for retirement in a few years and I’m trying to get a handle on the snow pack. I don’t mind some snow but don’t want to be stranded regularly by 3’ of snow in my driveway. Other than that Payson looks great.

eh-hem Payson DOES get snow. We did have a lot of snow in 2018-19 even snowed in May...I have the pictures to prove it. The thing about Payson is when it snows, the snow usually melts in a couple of days, except for on the north side of your house. We have gotten snow almost every year that I have lived here for the last 17 years. Except, we did not get any this winter so far, which is supposed to happen this weekend. So if you think Payson doesn't get snow, you are sadly mistaken. This town is at 5000' elevation

My wife's family surname is Payson and we had to take a drive up there to check out a town named Payson. We wanted something touristy for our troubles and tried that shop on our trip that you stopped at, nothing but definitely worth the stop. We went to the sports store on the other side of town (which has everything you need for sporting goods needs). They told us to try Walmart which I was not that excited about and they had nothing. IS IT A SECRET that the "RIM COUNTRY MUSEUM AND ZANE GRAY CABIN" is located in this town. I found this out after leaving and will be back just for that museum which has touristy stuff to buy. I hope that at some point you can redo your video and include the museum and cabin.

Beautiful, forested by Ponderosa Pine, as is all of the Mogollon Rim, aka "the high country", Strawberry is situated at 5,800 feet in elevation, often getting snow in the winter, unlike Payson, which sits at 5,000 feet in elevation, Payson's motto being "above the heat, below the snow". Strawberry and PIne (at 5,367 feet in elevation) are much smaller (neighboring towns to the north) than Payson, which itself is modestly sized. The internet says that Strawberry and Pine together have a population of roughly 3,000, while Payson's population is roughly 16,000. You can see the area in my large Arizona playlist. For reference as Arizona's "high country" goes, Flagstaff sits at 7,000 feet in elevation, up on the Colorado Plateau, of which the Mogollon Rim is the southern edge. Historically, it was normal (part of the normal weather pattern) for Flagstaff, Parks, Williams, Prescott, Strawberry and Pine, to get abundant winter snows, but not Payson, which sits just below the Rim. Prescott, to the west, sits at the same elevation as Pine, but is much more populated, surrounded by numerous other towns having their own terrain and elevation, some getting more snow, some getting little to none.

I hate to break the bubble but...Payson is not Peaceful! I live in Payson. On the weekends the inhabitants of this town have to stay home because there is so much traffic you can’t even get to the grocery store. If you manage to get to the grocery store you cannot get back home because the road through town (260), has car to car, bumper to bumper with vehicles blocking the intersection. The gas pumps often don’t work on weekends because they’re overloaded with people trying to get gas. Sometimes the Internet goes out along with cell service for several days because the infrastructure needs replacing. the population has grown so much it can not accommodate all the cell phone usage. It has high crime almost higher than anywhere else in AZ (as per % of population), This all goes unseen to the public. The prices for everything are higher than in the Phoenix area, the other day watermelon was $9 for an average melon. Gas is higher. The grocery stores run out of food often because of people passing through town buy up everything. During the pandemic people from the valley came up and bought out all our stores so the people living here had very few choices of anything especially toilet paper! Living wage jobs are few and almost non existent as is housing. Think twice about moving here.

There is so much more to see in and around Payson than just this main road, this is the WORST part of it. Next time, when you come up, make a left turn onto Main St and go down to Green Valley Park and out past the golf course. I have a home for sale in Payson, I've been here 17 years and it's not the same as when I moved here...heading for New England...adios oh, p.s.---to Living in Arizona Now, you said you grew up in Cave Creek, my sister and her family lived there for almost 30 years, you may know them.

If someone shares a better idea than what is currently being shared, and another person is happy, that person is secure with intellect. If someone shares a better idea than what is currently being shared, and another person is angry, that person is insecure and jealous. Emotionally secure individuals - those with intellect (honesty) - will always accept better ideas from another individual. Insecure men and women - those that lie - will always attempt to control better ideas if they come from other people. Power isn’t real, but hatred over thinking, beliefs, and ideas is. Ideas are meant to progress, not stagnate. There are no positions of power in society. There are only jealous human beings attempting to control better ideas. When human beings are friends, they are secure in intellect. Better ideas come forth naturally. No one can be better. All of the best ideas come forth from a state of being of humility, authenticity, and respect. No other emotional state will produce the best ideas possible in society.

Friendly = good mood. Not gay or feminine. All men are trying to control perception and ideas around friendship. Then how can people focus on telepathy then? There is nothing wrong with brotherly love socially. When it's not there, people are lying to your face to punk you. The idea doesn’t work, because people spot lying (shallow fields) immediately. The idea won’t last. That's the REAL reason. Everyone knows love is strong, not gay. People are just nervous and freaked out that everyone is psychic, but also mean in the mind. It creates paranoia and delusion.
