PB Swiss Rainbow Metric Hex Long Wrench Set (PB 212LH-10 RB) are the premier ball-end hex wrenches. Their powder coated colorful finish makes them both easy to identify and to find when set aside. Unlike the dark black oxide of my Craftsman, this shouldn't rust nor get left behind.
They are shorter on the short part and longer on the long part. Plus the ball really does allow turning even up to 30 degrees off center. Magic!

Here in europe, more precisely in germany, we use the 9 and 7mm hex keys exclusively on construction machines and equipment. This way, unauthorized people cannot make any changes or manipulations without having the right tool. Compared to the Wera hex keys, the PB Swiss have an overall better finish, such as better rust protection or the powder-coated finish instead of the Wera color tubes. Only the hex-plus function on the Weras is better when the screw is already rounded or damaged

And compared to the Wiha sets?, I have the Wera and it works good, but have been thinking about wera or pbswiss (super difficult for me to find pb swiss for some reason?, mostly coming from japan?), but have been looking at the pbswiss like they are, eh, toys (because of the shine etc :) ), think I have to rethink that perhaps.

@@Neslekkim I´ve used to use Wiha Hex Keys for over 10 years. But only for light working projects at home. They were great for the price, quiet a nice bargain. But they fail on rounded srews because of the heavy chrome finish. The edges are not as "sharp" as on the Wera Hex-Plus ones. The wera and pb swiss keys have always been reliable. I had wiha keys at work but over time they were badly bent and twisted, but they never broke. Now i´m using PB Swiss at work and Wera at home (looking forward to buy the PB Swiss 3212 LH-10 Set)

I spent some time reading about the 7 and 9mm hex wrenches on the Garage Journal forum. Seems the consensus is that here in the US, there is no official or organizational authorized use of those sizes in the automotive industry.

@@lastbesttool Just like here in the EU. There is no official use for 7 and 9mm hex in the DIN / EN / ISO standards. Well... most European car manufacturers have switched to Torx and E-Torx, which is why hex keys are becoming less and less important in the automotive industry anyway.

I recently bought quite a few pbswiss products and what I’ve been most impressed with is their line of offset flatheads. They’ve come in handy way more than I thought they would already.. would definitely recommend checking them out as they aren’t break the bank price (I got one of every size). Beautiful tools.

I have that same craftsman set. I think I bought them from sears when I first started driving. I used to go walk around in sears when I got my drivers license and look at tools.

I did the walk around thing, too. Flash forward a few decades, and Sears is closing. My son and I went there right before they shut down and bought all of the US Craftsman that we liked. Wasn't that much, but I'm happy that he had this experience.

I so remember those days. The isles of tools, the stacks of socket sets and the one in ten clerks that actually knew something. When I would warranty a tool it was like magic. "Just go pick out another one," they'd say, and then my broken tool would just get tossed into a cardboard box under the cash register.

I use hex keys daily, mostly SAE: Wiha, Wera, Elora shorts, Bondhus T-handles, and Eklind and Stanley vintage chromed multi-sets that I love. Ordered a Tekon set last night solely due to it having quite a few uncommon sizes, one of which I apparently need. Working on vintage machines, one can never predict the size of a fastener. The PB Swiss set looks great, but I think I'm done with buying standard hex keys.

I thought I was done with the old school L-shaped hex wrenches, but even though I have many other options including Snap On, I found that I kept grabbing those old Craftsman because they were more suited to the task. So time to enter the 21st century, I guess.

I always go back and forth betweeen spending the money on a nice set like this. Like you said, if the fasteners are garbage it doesn't matter how good your tool is, and unfortunately in my industry the fastners are often as cheap as can be.

I love Switzerland too, but sadly… the 3,000 year civilization of Europe is extinct. Yes, you’ll still be able to buy some thing’s synonymous with these European nations but by they are being replaced by design. Why does it matter? Because ALL the amazing things we take for granted like chemistry, physics, electricity, air conditioning, jet engines, science in general. Yes, we’ll have China and Russia, but historically they’re not taking us anywhere, so times up.
