My favorite Mika moment. He added a couple other big games that day and won the title if I remember right.

It’s not often you throw 248 and lose by 52 pins.

It's even less often you throw 52 and lose by 248 pins. But seriously, Tom Daugherty threw a 100 against a 299 once and that was pretty wild.

This was the one PBA tournament I wanted to be in attendance for seeing I live in Connecticut. Would have been very memorable to say the least.

I live in Meriden and I agree. I was 13 at the time watching this at my grandparents, as my grandfather was a retired bowler. This moment here is what made me pick up bowling and 17 years later I'm still at it! To think Mika nearly bowled another one on tv in 2011 against Tom Daugherty, and that match currently having the biggest score difference at 199 too. Mikas been apart of some history!

At the time, this was reported as the 16th, not 17th, TV 300. The reason is that on May 3, 1997, Jason Queen bowled a TV 300 at the ABC (Bud Light) Masters in Huntsville, AL. However, that event was not sanctioned as an official PBA event at the time. In May 2008, the PBA retroactively upgraded the Masters to PBA event status, and statistics for all PBA members were adjusted accordingly. One of those stats, of course, was Queen's 300, so every TV 300 between Queen's achievement and the May 2008 retroactive upgrade (eight total) was shifted back by one. Hope that clears the confusion.

I still think one of the goofiest things in all sports is the wild cheering before the ball gets to the pins. Every time it isnt a strike it’s instantly awkward and quiet. Maybe that’s the point I just find it funny as hell
