Someone might have pointed this out already, but Mythbusters actually tested the "are elephants afraid of mice" thing. It's true!! 😄 Cartoons do dramatize the reaction, but the elephants in the experiment still kinda jerked and backed away and went around the mice when they saw them. I think the video is still floating around KZbin...

I seem to remember reading that elephants are afraid of mice (or rather avoid them) because mice can get stuck in their trunks, which could be dangerous for the elephant. Imagine getting something stuck up your nose that can claw and bite.

In response to PBG asking if Hippo's can swim, the answer is "Not really". They submerge in water, yes, but they in no way float, paddle, or have an easy way of moving out of water. They simply stand on the shallow banks of African rivers and banks, and they rise and lower their heads above water to breathe. It's entirely possible that the water in Arctic Land was too deep, and if he were to drop in, he would sink to the bottom. THAT would be dangerous.

Time for some education! Hippos can swim! The term hippopotamus is actually from the ancient Greek term for river horse. Hippos are also highly aggressive and unpredictable, making them extremely deadly. The plural term is hippopotamuses.

Well, actually, while Hippos can swim somewhat, they are very poor at it. Adults naturally sink in water due to their weight, and their limbs don't lend them to much lift. They instead prefer shallow waters where their feet touch the bottom of the river. It's entirely possible that the water in Arctic World was way too deep for Zanzibar to hang in (though baby hippos can float a bit). It would make sense for the water to be deep, since penguins are there, and they ARE good swimmers.
