I really enjoy the small interactions some characters have with each other. Like how bowser refers to Bowser Jr simply as Junior if Bowser Jr gets Bowser as a ally, and how Monty Mole is nervous when playing the whack a mole like game. It just adds more depth.

@@DemonLordSparda that's the thing. The boards are boring... they lack creativity. I know because I bought the game hoping it'd be amazing. I loved mario party as a kid and while this one took a step in the right direction it's still boring.

@@AsheDragonz We'll have to disagree. In future versions I hope they make bigger maps, but this is definitely way better than some previous games with their gimmicks. I hated random star prices because that can fuck you and isn't in your control. When you get to a star space it should always be the same price. Instead of that one map where stars can randomly be 5 coins a piece right after you passed it and someone can swoop in and get 5 for 25. The whole hotel building one was also terrible. Plus that one where you have to use bullet bill and bowser candy to steal stars back and forth and you can never gain any new stars, it's just swapping the 20 it starts you with. These maps might be bland, but at least you are racing around a map for stars that are always the same price. That's what I wanted.

The thing about the maps being smaller is that most of the time you're roller lower rolls since it's 1-6 instead of 1-10. And instead of items giving you multiple rolls it just adds a set number, so you never really roll high rolls in this game, so having a large map would make getting to a specific area a pain.

I actually think there will be DLC maps. I think Nintendo just didn't overcommitted because Mario Party games weren't making good reviews nor sales. Maybe like splatoon, pretty basic at the beginning, it got so much DLC later on.

Unlucky spaces are pretty much the replacement for Bowser Spaces. Kamek runs it instead of Bowser. It works generally the same, so it’s basically just a name change and a palette swap.

I think the reason you have to play with joycons is because of the motion controls. Remember the 'thumbs up' motion they had you do in the beginning? I think that's why. Some minigames and actions in the game will require motion controls that the pro controllers can't offer or at least in the same way.

The level design seems a tad flat, like they're not big dynamic boards. BUT the dice thing and the mini games all seem legit. Plus I think the levels all sound like they have their own gimmick, so at least there's that. Well they want to use the unique features of the Joy-Cons and also make sure everyone is balanced rather than one person having a Pro Controller and others not. Even a small detail like high fiving your teammates was made with the Joy-Cons in mind. Sure they didn't have to have just Joy-Cons but I can see why they would want to, especially when the games are simple enough with move and one button input that you don't necessarily need a bigger controller to be comfortable and have fun.

Oh, I LIKE this. It adds a little strategy and a nice amount of player-controlled risk/reward. But I'm not sold on the Special Die types being tied to specific characters.

They finally did it! It took them a whole console generation but we finally have an actually good Mario Party! Best of all, I'm pretty sure the motion controls are more responsive than 8, which makes it even better! THEY FINALLY LISTENED TO US!
