The bigger irony is bartenders that still drink, shows how long youve really been bartending. When is the last time you saw one of these old guys behind the bar drinking a beer. There is a reason. All you kids at tales are so funny. The biggest thing is youll all move on to something else eventually. I was here before, here during, and ill still be here bartending long long after any of these guys in the video will.

I am 34 and have worked behind every kind of bar that you can imagine since I was 18. Personally, I can see where these guys are coming from, except... I appreciate the idea of "showy" bartending because it works in the right environment. I also respect traditional bartending because it appeals to drinkers that don't like all the fuss and nonsense. Basically, learn your craft and be adaptable. Tailor your service to the CUSTOMER. That is the LITERAL definition of "customer service". Forget about how amazing you are and think about how you would want to be served in that environment. Don't get me wrong. You WILL serve aresholes. Just don't feel as if you're better than the person who is literally paying your wages. You're not. If you disagree... find another job my friend. You're not a true bartender.

Well...when I try to look nice. On a date perhaps. Bc you are handling people's drinks...you can't look like a schlub. Aside from that I spend 99 % of my time learning new drinks and tinkering with them till they're good. I don't think there's any thing wrong with any of that. You're at work. You're learning skills and putting effort in to add to someone's experience and ultimately make better tips. The goal of anything in life is to grow right? I also read books from people that have been doing it forever and are very successful with a ton of classic recipes...Some of them should be left to die probably but a lot of them are canon. Sooo....don't really see a problem there either. The hipster thing...yeah. Some are douches in a different wrapper but you're full of shit if you say you don't have a style or put thought into your look. I do get some of the points here but this is pretty pretentious. Some people take pride in their work, and view food and drink more like art than just food or drink. It is the difference between someone who truly loves what they do, and has the creative spark to go above and beyond and someone who is there just for a paycheck. Yes, at the end of the day you are giving someone booze, but there are people who appreciate the quality of the product they use and want to showcase it in a creative way. It is no different than a chef experimenting with exotic ingredients just for the fun of it. For example, I like manhattans. If i find a really delicious small batch rye whisky, I may seak out the small batch and artisanal vermouth, and bitters. This is not because I want to be fancy or some shit, but because I genuinely love the craft and want to experiment with new things. Take some pride in your work and maybe you won't be so jaded.

I will pour an entire bottle of booze into the right amount of shot glasses for a group of regulars who love me and my bar any day of the week before I have to muddle an entire bag of lemons for the perfect group of lemon drops (which often happens to me as well) for a group of pretentious mid-range women on Blues Night. I thought at first it was because they were friends, but when they talk you can tell they don't know each other. First off: How is self promotion hurt the bar? Secondly: A Mixologist is a Bartender, but they are a bartender that cares enough about the drinks they serve to make sure they are better prepared and mixed to give the customer a great experience. I am a Bartender and a Mixologist. When I'm working at a club I can sling your simple drinks faster than most. Yet when I walk into the Speak Easy, that speed mentality changes to a classic custom cocktail frame of mind. These bartenders are grouping everyone that serve drinks from behind a bar into one category. This is the mistake they make and it shows their own short comings. Carrying on with the dentist topic; You might go to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned, but if you need something done like a wisdom tooth removed then you would need an oral surgeon. Now all oral surgeons are dentist, but not all dentists are oral surgeons. The short of this skit is, these people getting interviewed don't want to learn the trade any further than a Rum and Coke, and want to tear down those of us that work to make drinks worth drinking. With that said one point they don't say out loud but is the under tone of this interview: If your working in a standard bar, be a bartender not a Mixologist. Save your Mixology for the cocktail lounge where it belongs.

Imagine taking yourself THIS seriously when your profession is to pour liquids into cups for drunk people.

Dunno, ask the people who try to make the best out of a situation. Besides, there are laws that force bartenders who get a license to follow the rules. Cut people off, do not over serve or under serve. Do not discriminate based on race or ethnicity. If people only cared about getting drunk, Smirnoff is literally the only thing you need. Tastes like absolute shit but after a bottle, you are going to feel it.

0:40 "I'm not a fan of bar spoons and shakers" wtf? That's not bartending then, that's just pouring beer for people

Iv been a bar manager in the uk for two years now and I hate when bartenders from other bars come in as it always seems like a put down and why do bartenders looks like 1930s barbers these days please be yourself 😂😂

The number of offending bartenders in the comments who are raging is hilarious. Put down your friggin egos. You're making drinks, not performing brain surgeries all day.

Flying Trilobite As a bartender who simply slings drinks for a living, and has made a very good living at it for a very long time, I am pretty sure this hit a little too close to the place where their belt hits on the hips of their skinny jeans for them to be comfortable with this harsh dose of reality concerning how the rest of us view them.

I feel like it's generalizing a bit. I'm not a brain surgeon and fell into bartending and I'm surviving by helping people damage their own livers. Would I not be an idiot if I didn't try to do the best I can? How depressing would bartending be if you just poured jack and cokes all day and didn't try to create something and challenge yourself?
