Oh my God! I lived there when I finished playing football for U.H. , in the back behind the main building. I was a coach teacher. counselor, night watchman over the game room. Dr. Erlene, John Sharp, Ken and Carol Ling, Ray Tanaka were there full time. Most importantly I became Uncle Mike accepted into the local Ohana. I left for school at USC and became a dentist; returned and worked at Strong Carter clinic at Palama Settlement. Coached the Scorpions Pop Warner football team with John Sharp. I loved it there!

Thank you for sharing this! As a hawaii born and raised now living in SF, I'm proud to see such creative avenues exist for the next generation. Realizing that you don't need to be in a big city to succeed in order to reinvest into your community is something I wish I knew sooner. So much appreciation for Pow! Wow! Hawaii + Jasper.

Aloha, Thank you for this insightful program. Working in Kakaako back 2018, I remember meeting some artist there. Very inspiring to just see the pictures as I walk around there. Mahalo for all your work. Thank PBS for sharing. Chadsshow 😊

Visited Honolulu in 2022, and devoted one day to walking around Kakaako viewing the art and taking pictures. Really it was good fun. When I lived there in the in the '70's it was not so nice and now it's unique and awesome. Didn't know this back story about the art so a big Mahalo!
