A lovely snapshot of the tears, sweat, and love behind an intergenerational small business held together by community and family.

Great story! As a long time mainland visitor since little kid times, Mom & Pop shops are the true gems of Hawaii. They have the Aloha Spirit and spread far and wide. Please continue to support local. Thanks for showcasing a true gem. 🤙🏽💜

I grew up in Kalihi and back in the 80’s my parents would take us to the King St location. Lot of memories. I’m glad they were able to survive the pandemic because many long time restaurants closed. A very touching story.

We lived in Waipahu from 1974 - 1977, when it was surrounded by cane fields and not concrete. Don't really remember if we ever ate at Elena's. However, my roommate and I worked with several Filipino's and learned how to make pancit and adobo and lumpia - made 200 lumpia at my roommate's wedding reception in a little home kitchen, but never got to eat any of them, LOL, they got snatched up as soon as they were done. Good memories.
