Yes, future games that feature the quartette would go on to attribute different, more RPG-practical elemental properties to them such as the ones you describe, but at core it should bear remembrance that the elemental system of the Chinese Wu Xing is fundamentally different from the one widely popularized by Western Alchemy. ...... vozone nope, it totally is their fault, don't act like it isn't, financially successful games are still being released without having to rely on micro transactions and konami still chose to release a grindy buggy mess of a game based on one of their most beloved franchises, and when _that_ didn't work they ended up selling castlevania pachinko machines to casinos, meaning the only thing keeping konami afloat is pachinko machines and yu-gi-oh booster pack sales; Also the videogame market isn't a "3d obsessed hyper realistic open world swamp of generic western-developed crap", I don't even know where you got that idea from, either you're misinformed or your nostalgia is blinding you from seeing all the good games released each year, also, I've read a few articles and it actually seems like most gamers were born in the pre-psx days. Maria, can't take much damage, but is a little ball of fire locomotive, running over every undead thing in her path of destruction. I love playing as her, especially after I got tired of using Richter, even her ending theme is catchy as all hell. I remember salivating over screenshots of this game back in the day in Gamepro, they said at that time the game would never come to the states, and they were mostly right, but could not see the future. I never thought I'd ever get to play this game, but good things come to those who wait....about 10-12 years and through emulation first (I still have a burned copy on disc somewhere, but no longer rely on it).

This game is so much better then the new castlevanias. The new ones seem like exercises in how to reuse as many old resources as possible. This game feels like it has deliberation and thought and vision put into it. It has character.

I used to love playing Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse as a kid. I would play it for hours on end, I loved it! And to think, this game came out just two years later! Wish I had known about this one, I would have been enthralled! They don't make games like this anymore. So imaginative, detailed and fun! :D

We all can dream of. But i doubt this will ever happen again. Many Former Konami Devs are not at 505 Games as they were very unhappy how Konami did thread them. Most Prominent was Hideo Kojima which was known for the Metal Gear Series.

Not a chance in hell. Super Castlevania IV for SNES and SOTN on PSX are a completely different animal. The sound quality and graphics, when compared to the SNES simply do not compare. Konami really screwed up when they didn't make a carbon copy of Chi no Rondo on the Super Famicom.

Why? Dracula has to be brought back by blood sacrifice, like in the Hammer movies. The intro to Castlevania Chronicles is similar. Shaft rips the heart out of some poor soul in front of a huge pentagram! All that was missing was Slayer Raining Blood 😆

It becomes less disturbing, when you're fluent in german. For one specific line: "Er schlürft das Blut von jungen Frauen." More specifical, it's the word "schlürft (schlürfen)", that cracks me up every time. Dracula slurps the blood of women. The PSP-Remake thankfully replaced "er schlürft" with "er trinkt". Making the lien far less silly.

Also, the Grim Reaper himself came up to Belmont, who was on the way to the burning city on the carriage, just to taunt him.

@MrVolksbeetle Most PC Engine game developers had a much lower budget to work with than the SNES game developers, with an exception of mega-companies like Konami and Hudson. That's why the PC Engine games developed by Konami or Hudson, especially the CD ones, look just as good or maybe even better than the SNES games. However, If I had to pick my favorite PC Engine game developer, I'd choose Naxat, since they created some really impressive looking games in spite of being such a tiny company.

There are three Bomberman titles for the PC Engine. Regarding Metal Gear and Sparkster, in the case of Metal Gear the series entered an hiatus after Metal Gear 2 for the MSX2 and until Metal Gear Solid. They probably should have taken Metal Gear 2 to the 16-bit consoles of then, but probably they would have taken it to either the SNES or the Mega Drive (or both) to also approach the western audiences. Same thing with a Sparkster game, there was little sense in releasing that in the PC Engine when the main audience of that series was in North America and Europe.

turbohusque best classic castlevania: rondo of blood best metroidvania: symphony of the night RoB and SotN are equals in quality but if we compare them based on gameplay, that just isn't fair as both games are completely different in terms of gameplay, like, you have a linear platformer in which you go through multiple stages each with branching paths in order to destory Dracula Vs a 2D RPG in which you cast magic spells, transform into animals, explore an entire castle, fight a variety of monsters, find familiars that do various things, equip a variety of weapons and armour, learn a bunch different abilities and last but not least *drum roll* collect alot of magical relics that help you progress; see? It's best to compare them based on execution and not gameplay, so if we do that we see that RoB executed the classic style best, while SotN executed the metroidvania style best, and now I don't know how to end this comment... Ummmm fuck castlevania 2,I guess.

But it isn't, especially compared to the original NES trilogy, the SNES follow up to this game (fight Drac over bottomless pit, fight him on small platforms), and the madness on the X68000/PS1, Akumajou Dracula/Castlevania Chronicles, Haunted Castle arcade, or Vampire Killer MSX.

Despite how awesome this game is, there are a few things I like about the snes port Dracula X. First off is the music. I honestly think the snes cart had better music. Also I love the very first level on the snes version more than this one even though this harkens back to Simon's Quest with the same opening town. I like Rondo of blood for it's level progression, but I also like Dracula X for it's uniqueness. In all, I love both games. It's just too bad this one never came here in it's legit form. Konami could have ported it to the Ps1 for crying out loud! Or at least made it a secret unlockable in Symphony of the Night. And yeah, I don't care about the redone psp version.

More of a recording bug. The capture card can't handle transparency well.

DGneoseeker1 Old question, but oh well... It's because the transparency effect is done by showing the Shaft character sprite every 2nd frame. The game runs with 60FPS, the recording probably has 30 frames / second. So it skips every second frames and those frames were recorded, when the Shaft sprite is not visible. So what I mean is the quick flickering makes it look transparent, but it's just visible every 2nd frame.
