Prety Bombur As weird as it may sound, I am thinking of doing a palette hack of the Genesis version, to make it look more like the PC Engine version. Westone did a pretty bad job with the port, which is surprising, considering how well they did with the Monster World series on Genesis. Issue is, I have to look into what characters and objects use which sprite palette (two sprite palettes, 15 colours each), and if the background actually uses the second background palette at all. From the mockup of Jammin' Jungle I did, the game still doesn't look as nice as the PC Engine version, but looks so much brighter, and more loyal. Also, I am thinking Bomberman, his bombs, the core mechanisms, and the Spirit Picture container all use the same palette as well, which may REALLY help with the graphics somewhat.

It was the only western release of the game, eventually though come the Wii, the PCE version would find it's way westward.

It's actually pretty good and interesting that you don't show what happens when you leave the blocks after having grabbed the planet piece. I didn't realize that my goal might've been to conserve the destruction until sometime in the second world when I rushed through and found out that many more points were awaiting if I left the blocks alone as much as I could. It's a surprisingly more interesting concept than I'm used to.

I saw my late uncle play this one back in Win 3.1/95 days but I don't even know the name of this one, I can only remember that it's Bomberman, and what I have on NES back in the days wasn't this one. Now I can die peacefully, my question has been answered.

Not quite, that honor goes to Saturn Bomberman, but this one is pretty damned great in it's own right. But there's a lot of good to very good Bomberman games out there.

It's amazing just how much Mega Bomberman was nerfed after seeing this. Imagine the smear campaign Turbo could had done against the Genesis by comparing '94 to Mega! This could have been a system saver.

The poor Turbo got an ugly redesign and almost none of the great PC Engine games. It's sad that NEC US' awful management doomed the console right from the beginning.

Andrew, it wasn't totall nerfed even having almost no graphical effects, if you pay attention in the PCE version (BM '94), if you have a Louie and Remote Control bombs, you will see they use the exact same button which is a problem fixed in the Genesis Version (Mega Bomberman)

I've got this one on Wii VC and a cart of Mega Bomberman. I enjoy both versions but for a little while years back didn't know they were one in the same as a game. Sure the Genesis one may not sound as nice, but I enjoy having both around.

***** That sort of downgrade was common in various multi platform games where many PC engine versions outshined the supposedly superior SNES and GENESIS. PC engine does have more colors than genesis though, and bomberman 94 is definitely more colorful than Mega bomberman.

SpartanFromSpain Same amount of colours as Genesis actually (512 colours), but PC Engine can display 480+ colours at once, versus the Genesis's 64. The SNES has more colours than both systems, but only displays 256 at once.

Hudson just does a shitty version on MD because PC Engine is the console of Hudson, that's all. In the same style Pengo on Megadrive looks much better than Mega Bomberman ...

@@SamaSaku1 Hudson didn't port the game to the Genesis though, Westone of Wonderboy fame did, and they damned well knew how to program for the Genesis.

because I think the genesis does not have enough capacity for certain details of this version, like the bottom fish in the world 3 or the bats that flutter while you are in the dark. ovbiamente this version is better, but the genesis is not bad, just missing details.

This is a great game, but I notice alot of people going "This looks and sounds so much better than Mega Bomberman!", and I kinda' have to ask: If that's the case, why is the music and sound so tinny, and why does Bomberman's bomb-placement sound even more like farts than in the Genesis version? I'm sorry, but by now in my life, I've played the Super Bomberman series, Mega Bomberman, Nintendo Bomberman, Bomberman World, and Wario Blast (which I know is an odd Wario'd-up port of a Bomberrman game, but I don't care), so I'm fairly well-rounded on the good Bomberman gaming and uhh...no, this doesn't sound as good. It's alright, but I don't see what the fuss is about.

Thinny? This is the GOAT. Mega Bomberman is a 70% clone at best. It lacks half of the animation, no water ripple, no dancing penguins, no lit christmas trees, no fish swarms (some 16 bit processor could not handle it!), the colors are bland (the coral looks like spaghetti bolognese) and the music is a collection of mediocre tracks, ported to 4-op FM, a synth chip nobody could handle. Sure, it has bass, but that is the only thing positive of the FM sound on MB.

@@2kBofFun That doesn't really change the truth of what I said. Yes, tinny. Because it sounds tinny. I can't help you with claims of the sound chip's capabilities or that it has some extra graphics. None of that matters, at the end result. A lovely bike with a flat tire is unappealing to me against another nearly-identical bike whose tires are fine. One grates, one doesn't.
