Something got lost along the way, the Diablo of then wasn't over the top, it was paced and didn't rely on MASSIVE screen filling effects and a million things at once. Now everything is about how much bullshit can we fit on the screen at once to appease the audience of purely visual stimuli.
@RighBread5 жыл бұрын
Diablo 1 was just a simple horror-themed RPG. Combat was secondary to ambiance and tone. The story was extraordinarily simple and small-scale (a small hamlet is beset by demons, and it is slowly revealed why it's happening), but it worked to make the player feel less like some kind of "chosen hero" and more like just some wretched, lonely traveler that is the only one remotely capable of solving this problem. The tone slowly shifts from "fighting zombies in a spooky crypt" to "fighting for your life as you encounter horrors beyond belief deep below the surface of the world." While you do level up and gain new equipment, effectively becoming stronger and more capable, there's still always a sense that you are ill-equipped to deal with the kind of evil that inhabits this hellish underworld, and it's wonderful. Diablo 2 returned with a much, MUCH bigger focus on gameplay, mostly with the stat-building, skill-tree mechanics, and the iconic loot system. The story was blown up from being small-scale with the threat of becoming large-scale, to simply large-scale. We get about 50 times more background information on Diablo and the other prime evils, their plans, their history, their powers, etc. We now take control of one of seven grand heroes, and travel across the entire world with the goal of destroying three ancient and powerful-beyond-human-comprehension evil forces. Player empowerment is a big part of the game, as you grow and become more able to fend of massive hordes of demons and beasts with your overwhelming power. Both have their merits, but have wildly different focus. They are most easily compared to Terminator 1 and Terminator 2, really; both great movies, but very very different from one another, despite being so closely connected.
@TheBardorp5 жыл бұрын
@@RighBread So Diablo 3 would be the equivalent of Terminator Genysys or however they spelled it?
@RighBread5 жыл бұрын
@@TheBardorp It's actually closer to the equivalent of Terminator 3. The creators took a bunch of stuff that they thought was cool from the 2nd entry in the series and made a new product out of it, but completely misunderstood what made the previous entries so popular, so it was all shallow action and no heart. I hope to god I never have to witness the Diablo equivalent of the embarrassing dumpster fire that was Genisys.

I remember this game. As you descended into the lower depths of Hell, it actually became scary, like a horror movie. Fun game! Glad to see it again.

Am I the only one who tried clicking on the screen forgetting that I wasn't actually playing the game?

I finally played this for the first time last year. I loved it, but there are two things that were almost deal breakers for me: 1. The pace your character moves, which almost completely screwed me over since my character was a warrior with no ranged attacks. 2. The fact that money takes up so much space in your inventory. That's some bullshit.

Wow just wow the atmosphere, the deep dialogue and superb writing. Look at how far Diablo has fallen to the depths of Diablo Immortal. As my precious Diablo succumbed to Activision Blizzard twisted fate, I fled from Blizzcon, hoping that what i saw and heard was an out of season april fools joke. It wasn't... My faith now wanes and with it the last of my dollars as well. Please aid me and bring back the real Blizzard. I will repay your efforts - I swear upon my honor.

Slow paced and dark, something DIII and DIV haven't been able to duplicate, sadly.

Angelo Balboa _gratefully well mannered, like Ogden's generosities- both Cain's and Ogden's have at least, the non-show-- legendary seeking flashbacks. ("Elderly Assistance")- regaining what's Tristram's supposed Originations.

WOW Good times, I cant even remember how many times i played and beat this game over and over in the late 90's, today I still own the original game disk game on PC saved somewhere in my list of collection of old 90's disk collection, the only reason why I don't play this anymore is that I cant stand that you cant run like in the sequels.
