Full MIDI OST / Soundtrack of the game Doom II / Doom 2 (1994, ID Software), captured directly from a real Roland Sound Canvas SC-88 vl (SC-55 map partially enabled), plugged into the Sound Blaster 16 CT2290 card of my Pentium 200 mmx PC.

You don't have SC-55 mapped mode enabled properly. The drums give it away. There are several cymbal "choke" effects that only play back properly in SC-55 mapped mode. They are not being played back properly here. However, your LCD shows the " that indicates that at least the first part is set to SC-55. How did you attempt to set your SC-88 to SC-55 mapped mode? If you simply pressed the "SC-55 MAP" button, it will only change the currently selected part to SC-55. You need to first press ALL and then SC-55 MAP to set all the parts to SC-55. Here's a comparison on my SC-88: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX3MmKZ4edWrj6s EDIT: After listening more carefully, it does seem to me that you only changed the first part to SC-55 rather than all of them. For example, the slap bass on part 2 of the MAP01 song sounds very different and more pronounced in SC-55.

@adimifus thank you so much for your detailed explanation :). It seems that I forgot to press the ALL button before the MAP button. I'm going to upload a recording from a real SC-55, and maybe another from the SC-88 without the map mode enabled at all.

@@R3dRuM86 well at least this is the closest i have to an actual 88 recording of the full doom/doom 2 osts, i don't think anybody's uploaded the full soundtracks with the sc-88 native map on

Is there a difference between the SC-55 and SC-88 (not using the SC-55 map option)?

Note that I have the SC-55 map enabled, could this be the cause? It may vary also if you use a SC-88 PRO. What differences did you find?

@@R3dRuM86 Ah that might be it. I have a SC-88 Pro. I was also using the SC-55 map.

@@R3dRuM86 Also, you only enabled the SC-55 map on the first MIDI track, which could also explain the odd sound. See my dedicated comment for details about this.

@@adimifus Yes, I think you'r right. Now that I have a real SC-55 (with the 1.20 ROM), I'm going to upload a recording from it, and maybe reupload this one without the SC-55 map enabled (for any of the MIDI tracks :P). Thank you so much!
