Interesting. The biggest issue with the Mac is if anything goes bad you are out of luck and the whole machine goes back to apple and hopefully can make it back without a complete reinstall. Apple only have the performance edge when M1 launched, and since then, PC has caught up massively; Intel has launched 12th and now 13th gen with their intel 7 process, AMD has launched Zen 4 with TSMC 5nm process, and Nvidia has upgraded to TSMC N4 process and gained massive performance per watt uplift, so now Apple has now loss the performance crown again, and their efficiency crown is also dwindling due to the competition also making deals with TSMC to access advanced nodes. For laptops I can see Apple still having the performance crown not because they have the highest peak performance when plugged in, but because they have higher performance when on battery, which is the majority of the scenarios people use their laptop with, and plus the battery life itself is still superior, and the mini led screen on the Macs is still the best for Dolby Vision HDR and color accurate editing, but for the desktops, I don’t see much of a point when it doesn’t run on battery anyway and the only benefit you got is just slightly lower electricity bill, or perhaps more convenient to move, and combined with the fact that Apple still didn’t include RT accelerators in their M2 chips to speed up rendering, I find it hard to choose their Mac Mini/Studio, unless the ultra large Vram that is enabled by Apple’s unified memory architecture is needed for your specific rendering scenario.

You need to do a video where you compare the M2 Pro with a similar spec'd PC. But have the Mac run Final Cut Pro and have the PC run either Premier Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Put both machines through the same types of tasks. That way you are comparing platforms. FCP is optimized for Macs, and DaVinci and Premier Pro are optimized for PCs. The whole video editing experience should be taken into account, and compared for what each machine does best with the software it is optimized for. That's the only way to get a true Mac vs PC comparison.

Ditto for the 256 GB SSD that is a known bottleneck (512 GB is almost 2X the performance). I'm willing to bet your Windows machine wasn't configured with 8GB of RAM (minimum recommend for Win11, right?), so why configure the M2 and M2Pro with "minimum" RAM? I just don't see the value of a "side by side" comparison where the specs of the various machines aren't optimized for the task at hand.

His title actually says "for the SAME PRICE" in big, bold letters... The video he references as "the build I used" shows a price of $1300 for the PC used in the testing. And in the "comments" area where he shows the specs, it is confirmed that he's using a $1,300 PC build that has 16GB of RAM and a larger, faster SSD. He's benchmarking that "$1300 PC" against a $599 base model M2 Mini (8GB memory, 256GB SSD). To get even remotely to the "SAME PRICE" claim he's making, he should be at least upgrading to 16GB memory ($200) and 512GB SSD ($200) for a total cost of $999, which is still WELL below the cost of his "bargain PC" config. The only way I can see to make those two systems actually close to the "SAME PRICE" you would have to take the GPU card ($350-ish out of the PC. You can't say "for the SAME PRICE" when one system costs more than TWICE as much as the other.

This is a very intersting take that I don't believe is even remotely true. When I work professionally and collabroate with a team i.e. a production company I will, more than likely, be using Premiere Pro espcially if working with or for/with a studio. When i assumed and compared RTX 4080 efficiency and performance per watt against m1 ultra, 4080 is even much much much much more efficient than m1 ultra for the performance and also reliability, compatibility it is offering like in blender, vray, octane bench, unreal engine, 3ds max, nvidia omniverse, and 100s of 3d content creation. 4080 is even more efficient than 4090. 4080 is 2 to 3 times efficient than 3090 or 3090ti in gaming and 3d apps which was already efficient and has better performance per watt than m1 ultra.

The actual felt speed of application switching and launching and just general lag in between regular tasks is better on base Mac than a $4500 PC. However, it unfortunately isn't worth the other tradeoffs, and adding just a modest amount of RAM and SSD space to any Mac will run you +$1200 on top of in many cases already high base prices.

K chips only make sense on Z boards if you intend on playing around with overclocking, undervolting, etc. And some 660 / 760 boards also support this unofficially (Asus B660-I for example).
