There is another possible reason for this behavior. If you fail to put the lever of the cpu socket up before you insert the cpu, it drops in nice and tight nonetheless and you can install the cooler just fine. None of the cpu pins will make many contact though so the system will behave as if no cpu is installed at all. Then you will browse the internet for solutions or explanations for days, call multiple repair shops in your area to ask if they happen to have an old processor that can be used to update the BIOS (because you probably have a BIOS too old to recognize your fancy new processor) and no one can help you so you finally contact your supplier to return the board and you start dismantling it. When you get to the point where you remove the cooler you will find the processor comes off with the cooler without effort. Which strikes you as odd... Your aging brain then only needs a couple of seconds more to understand what happened. Although no physical damage is done and your system starts up just fine after re-inserting the cpu properly, you cannot be happy about it quite yet because you feel so stupid. Your ego will need weeks to recover.

Lol That exactly happened to me a while ago. Fortunately I saw your comment. I bought a new very nice ASUS B550 PRO motherboard and I was afraid that it was defective and I would ask for an RMA. I usually repair computers and laptops from my friends and relatives and I felt like a stupid newbie to see that I had forgotten to secure the processor. I think that more than a rookie mistake, it is my back pain that is killing me and causing me to rush and forget obvious details. It's not my brain that's getting old, it's my lame spine. I'm gonna take some ibuprofen. Thanks for saving my day
@zulu67563 жыл бұрын
This is just not acceptable from any reputable system builder, how could they get something so basic so wrong, you can usually feel when the cpu goes in all the way with your fingers when you drop the cpu onto the socket.

One of your African viewers here.. Some time ago, a colleague of mine gave me a good upper-mid-tier Ryzen 5/RTX 3090/16GB gaming PC with an ASUS B450M-K that had started doing this. Said I can have it if I can fix it, cause it was "trash"... (his own words, not mine) I took it home.. inspected it. Did exactly the same. You'd press the power button, but nothing would happen- no CPU fan turning, no case fans turning, no PSU fans turning, motherboard lights up(some moving light near the back of the IO on the mobo), with another light on the PCI-E slot(deceptive, cause it could mislead one into thinking the PCI-E slot is f*d, but anyway..), so: 1. Detemine if the PSU functions at least: --- - I disconnected the 24-pin connector on the motherboard - On the 24-pin connector, I shorted the pins of the green wire and one of the black wires' pins using a paper clip(Always keep a paper clip or two on hand. The green wire is the line for "power-on") and the PSU switched on- fan turning and everything. So... the PSU was functioning, which led me to believe that the power switch or the motherboard pins where the power switch connect to, were efffed. 2. Determine whether the power switch or the pins on the mobo were done in: --- - Reconnected the PSU to the motherboard by reconnecting the 24-pin connector - Took a screwdriver and shorted the two pins where the power-switch's wires would connect to... and voila! RGB ligthing everywhere.. "Press F1 to enter BIOS.. " and whatnot. "Jazz hands" and more... - I entered the BIOS, loaded default settings and tadaaaa! A nice, decent performing ROG-based rig with Crucial Ballistix and Kingston SSDs, Lian-Li case, etc for less than peanuts! 3. Conclusion: - I then installed an external power switch and mounted it neatly onto the case, with a neat little safe housing, since it's impractical to use a screwdriver to start this thing, and with all the RGB lighting and cabling and s*, I didn't have the will to change/fix the PC's own power button. Hope this helps some poor b*ard somewhere.

Nice one Ash , i think they were lucky to only get 1 bent pin. Makes you wonder who put the CPU in the first place as you can feel if the CPU has gone in correctly when inserting, and clearly the system was not checked onced built. Keep up the good work.

So in my case my psu is probably dead considering I never open up my pc let alone mess with the cpu UPDATE: I just did the jump start method using a screwdriver on the powerswitch pins and it powered up my PC to life. So my psu is ok. Almost ended up spending $150 on something I didn't need. So my guess the culprit was that my psu & power switch connector got loose, since now im able to turn on/off with the power button again.

I experience the same scenario and I was desperate thinking my simple gaming rig will become unusable, I was desperate I thought it was the motherboard and I physically damage it and other components hoping I could Fix it by removing most of the parts like RAM and Vcard, nearly tried everything (every suggested procedure to fix it) > But I managed to fix it in a weird way. When I saw your video that it was the CPU's problem, I checked the CPU and I don't see any bent pins at all, I imagine that a motor needs to be warmed up before ramping the RPM up so what I did to my CPU (in desperation) I removed it and Open the box where my OLD PC was stored and removed the old CPU's Fan and I Place my new CPU facing down to the old one, then I turned the OLD PC on of curse without the fans for about 1-3mins. > when it's Hot enough that I couldn't barely hold it, I place the CPU back to my motherboard and a miracle happened, it turned on, fans spinning and successfully bot up. I have no Idea what actually happened when I place that CPU to the old one while the OLD PC was running without fans, If someone could explain to me what happened exactly during that stupid experiment of mine, It will be great. My PC specs : Asus Rog Strix B450-F Ryzen 5 3600x 6 cores 12threads Gigabyte RX 590 8GB 16GB T-Force 3200mhz (8GB x2) 400GB SSD 2 TB HDD Win 10 Ryze 600w PSU

I've a similar problem, but the orange light, on boot, in my MB turns on only occasionally. PC doesn't start (black monitor) and I have to turn it off and on again, and then it starts. It always happens in the first boot of the day (mostly in the morning). I suspect it may have been the use of Throttlestop.

i got a Ibuypower pc that did a similar thing after light use of the pc. Literally within a month it stopped working, Ibuypower then tried to say it was the GPU, which i tried to get them to take the whole pc, sure enough it was not the gpu, & then refuses to fix it, so pretty much stuck with it unless i decide to sue them or something. But i recorded everything & the first one looked like they jammed the original gpu into it & a bunch of other stuff. So I'm not surprised that thier are other company's doing the same thing. Its crazy really.

I tried taking out the battery, the RAM, disconecting all peripherals, taking out the GPU and trying to connect the two pins using a screwdriver and nothing is helping. I've just had the same issue. The PC will not post on arrival. I tried everything. Re-seated the Ram, CPU, GFX. Bios Battery, checked the 24pin, 8pin. Booted with the bare minimum. Checked for damage on pins or anywhere in the case. Nothing looked out of place. The PC just would not post. I've returned it to the company but I've no idea why this happened. One thing I found odd was the Debug LEDs would not light up at any point. They did not cycle or light to indicate a problem

Here's an interesting possibility, which would explain why the buyer wanted you to fix it, and not contact the seller. It WAS the buyer's fault. It came with a stock cooler, and the buyer tried to upgrade it with a better cooler, but being inexperienced, he thought he had to remove the cpu to do this, which is what he did. When he tried to reinstall the cpu, his inexperience led him to install it improperly, and this was the result. In this scenario, there was no fault on the part of the seller.
