I'd be much more interested to see a column (or 2, 3...) of price evolution. In January prices have actually gone up across the board, no? This GPU market is still beyond absurd. Absolutely ZERO progress whatsoever. (6800xt@$500 has been the benchmark since BF2022. It's been 1y+ and the 7800xt (roughly the same performance) sells at the same price. Practically, 0 improvement. 6700xt should be comfortably below 300, but it ain't. Been selling for 320-350 for 1y+, too. Dafuq! Nvidia is a joke across the lineup.) A used 6800 seems to me as one of the very, very few decent deals ATM.

I'm just starting to learn about these modern video cards having been a console player for the longest time, one common theme I keep seeing on these reviews is, "if I save a little more money..." so you end up never buying a video card. Or you end up chasing video cards down a rabbit hole, starting at $250, then for $50 more you can get something better, but for $70 more you can get this even better card, then next thing you know, you're looking at $900 cards when you were looking at $250 cards from the start. I'm a big fan of used and open box components. Last week I pulled the trigger on a Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti 16GB OC, open box from Best Buy for $415. It's my first high performance card, at least to to me. I'm starting on an old XEON workstation build with an E5 or dual E5 V4s and 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory that is dirt cheap. It's going to be a learning experience where I'll eventually move to a modern CPU and hopefully, taking this video card with me, or at least being able to recoup a decent amount toward the next card.

I was just looking at the available 4080 Supers - not a one at NE or Amazon, and the available 4080's are well into the $1200++ range. Even the 7900 XT's and XTX's are facing some availability issues it seems while prices seem to be ticking up. Finding a white card is even more difficult in both availability and affordability. Best I can do is at NE for a white 7900 XTX Power Color Hellhound for $1K, and an ASRock Phantom white 7900XT for ~$750.00. That's quite a price difference for the added memory and some extra speed. The market is just crazy.

I think it's important to discuss VRAM in more detail than simply "more is better". For example, for the 40 series GPU's Nvidia significantly increased the L2 cache on their cards, which significantly improves performance because the latency to access cache versus VRAM is much lower. By doing that they reduced the requirement for higher VRAM. There are other important considerations such as memory bus width as well that need to be looked at. And then there is what tools report as VRAM usage ... in most cases a game will allocate VRAM based on how much you have just in case it needs it, but just because it is holding the VRAM doesn't mean it will actually use it. So this is why it's important to actually look at the benchmarks and see which card performs better. The 4070 Super is a great card that beats the 7800 XT in most games ... for gaming efficiency (FPS/$) they are essentially tied, given the lower price of the 7800 XT, so both cards are great options. But you shouldn't simply buy the card with the higher VRAM ... that is not a good way to justify a purchase in my opinion.

Agreed. 20gb wow! Gotta buy that one!
@aylim308811 ай бұрын
Agree with the 4070S, but with 4060/ti, they really throttled the memory bandwidth, justified it with "oh but we increased the cache", and reviewers showed that it didn't help
@blackbirdpctech11 ай бұрын
@@aylim3088I am good with that because it’s based on actual performance data. It also explains why Nvidia added a version with 16GB because they were hoping people will buy the larger number without looking at the performance.
@Anton_dk11 ай бұрын
What you say is probably right. But this video meant to give an average perspective on the cards relative peformance, sourced from bencmarks on various games regardless of how much VRAM they allocate. This is something the indivdual has to consider and look at specific game bechmarks, to determin what is needed on their gaming level. "More VRAM" is better in the sence of the video's goal, which is to secure a stable framrate and detail level on higher resolutions. Of course 16 GB is not needed on 1080p in most games, but given that a lot of recent AAA titles have shown more VRAM usage (EVEN in 1080p - as mentioned in the video), I could imagine some might consider the buffer in case of a further increase in game VRAM recuirements or monitor upgrade. The 7800 XT might be a better deal to some, because of that VRAM leap, over the 4070 super or even the 3080 12GB which is cheaper and has the same level of average peformance.
@metalface_villain11 ай бұрын
the only reason nvidia has such low vram is to make the cards obsolete faster so you can buy the new one faster or so they can sell you the same card twice because it has more vram now.

Full disclosure, I may just be experiencing the glory of OLED where RT is concerned, but I could not tell a difference between the cards graphically with it on. I can't in good faith recommend someone buy a 4090 just to game, the RT effect in general is wildly overrated... but if you insist on RT for the 3 games it's in, the 4090 is the only one I saw that does it with any stable fps.

2 weeks ago I had an i5-8600k @ 3.6ghz paired with a GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070 Super and 16gb ram. It just wasn't cutting these days with a 27" 2k screen. Now I got a Ryzen 9 7950X3D @ 4.2ghz paired with GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4090 and 64gb ram. Now, I don't have to worry about anything. Everything is on ULTRA with RayTracing on full blast with a 49" Ultrawide monitor @ 2k. According to 3DMark, the current build is better than 95-99% of all benchmarks without overclocking. If your'e a gamer and you got the money, just go all in. The worst case scenario is you have to update your CPU in the next few years to finally catch up to your massive GPU.

There's a few things I'd like to play right now but the main games I'm waiting for aren't out until 2025 so I may just wait for the 50 series, otherwise I'll probably end up getting a 4080 super if it's ever on sale for less than $1300

Most cards play everything at 1440P, but they all stink at ray tracing unless you want to pay for a 4090 which will be matched for 2/3 the price soon enough. People need to understand Anti-Aliasing is a HUGE resource and barely needed. The $800+ cards are way under performing for their asking price.

The Arc 770 drivers are the same ones that are used for Intel UHD integrated graphics, eg for my 13600K. I had no issues running on integrated graphics for a whole year. I finally managed to find a store deal on an msi trio 6800 non xt. It's more than enough for what I use it for, and the AMD Adrenaline software is much better than I thought it would be. The only minor issue I've had with the pc is with it's rog strix power supply, made by seasonic. It sometimes makes a slight creaking sound when in medium use. Only noticeable in a silent room. I thought it was the gpu initially until I realised it was the same noise as when the psu fan button is pressed to start up or stop. From what I can find with seasonic it's quite common with some models as they change rpm or slow down. As for noise in general I've only noticed gpu coil whine once, when I accidentally ran 3d simulation software at over 500fps without limits. Other than that, it's performing well with no issues.

I wanna say that the 4060ti is actually a scam by Nvidia. It costs a hefty chunk more than the 3060ti despite offering the exact same performance. Only extra feature you get for your money is Frame Generation, which massively increases your input latency. The 4060ti imo belongs on the "absolutely avoid" list just because of the bad business practice that it is. A used 3060ti can be a much, much better deal.

It's hella overkill for what I plan to use it for especially since I'll be gaming on a portable 16" 1440P monitor but I couldn't justify getting the 7600XT over the 6700XT for roughly the same price. 6700XT just stomps the 7600XT in raw performance.

I was very disappointed in the new Nvidia super series cards. The extra vram on the 4070 ti super is nice, but I was hoping it would perform closer to a 4080 and it's almost same performance as a normal 4070 ti. The only good thing about the 4080 super is the price drop, the performance is like 3% better. They should have just kept the standard 4080 and reduced it's price by 200 dollars. The card that I want myself is a 7800xt 16gb, or I may buy a 6950xt if I can get it cheap enough.

I appreciate the work that goes in to the GPU spreadsheet but it's silly to be using the new price for cards like the 6800 XT in your price/performance calculations. There's only really one model of the card card in stock on sites like Newegg and no one should be buying it at that price when the used market is absolutely full of high quality cards for $100 less than the "best price" you have listed for it. Another tab that used the lowest price, either used or new, would be a great addition.

If you need a 4K Raster Blaster get the 7900XTX For everything else get the 4090 if you create or don't want to buy another gfx card for 7 years. Or 4080 S for gaming with RT, second best creation ability. Or below that just get what's best for your budget from AMD or Nvidia. As for VRAM this is highly debatable. Are you going to use upscaling? Target should be above the current gen consoles but not by that much. E-sports high refresh rate gamers don't need more than 12GB. 4K single players could use 16-20GB (depending on how well optimized devs make the game) However in the 7900XTX's case who's to tell if the core would be the bottleneck in the future instead of the VRAM buffer.

Yeah 8GB of VRAM today is next to nothing if you’re running high demand games. My 8GB 3070 can’t run Forza Motorsport 2023 at any setting above medium in 1440p without maxing out VRAM and tanking performance. I can get away with more at 1080p but the image is still fuzzy and just not as good to look at as opposed to just switching to native resolution (which for me is 1440p). The GPU and whole PC itself is going on almost 3 years old now and it’s about time to do a GPU upgrade. Heavily considering pulling the trigger on a 16GB card as I don’t think 12GB will be enough down the line as games will continue to get more and more VRAM intensive.
@GrainOnTheGo10 ай бұрын

So its not like even the cheapest options wouldnt be a massive upgrade for me. Gpu still going strong but definately can tell some games are a bit scuffed looking. Still can run new titles like the newest ratchet and clank game with not a lot of issues. Did get the occasional lag or frame drop so its probably a good sign I need to look for an upgrade. But apart from new games, performance is still pretty good and obviously if you have no desire to play new games the 1070 ti will do the job.

So here is the thing: when you play 1440p, let's say with an 4060 Ti, you have to use dlss in AAA games anyway. Dlss looks so amazing and you can sharpen the game wirh an extra setting so that you cant even recodnise a big difference between dlss quality and performance on a big screen. For example i am playing wirt thus card in an 42 inch, 120 Hz sony oled and the picture looks stunning sharp, even in performance mode. So i can play for example cyberpunk kompletely maxed out WITH Pathtracing wirh over 60 to 70 fps on an 8GB Card without any problems!!!! The only setting that is not maxed out is the textures! And that is a very little sacrifice because in most games you dont recodnize a differnece if its high or ultra, medium or high. So there is a lot off bullshit talking everywhere ablut a card like the 4060ti, because you cant expect to get the same result lile using a card vor doubble the price.

Even from Germany I like your videos and watch various ones to get updated about hardware and its best combinations. This one is really great especially regarding the price to performance chart. But what I think is really missing here is a chart about the power consumption. How many watts I need to get one fps. With increasing costs for electricity and as a heavy gamer I am more interested in this figure. Maybe 50 bugs upfront can save me 200 the next 2 years. What do you think?

Nice! My 6800 XT was mentioned for 1440p 😂It's an excellent 1440p GPU and runs cool ~ 45 - 50 C max.. well, the Asrock version at least.
