Thanks for watching. I have others that go in to more detail on PCGS. If you want my opinion I’d submit to ANACS first. Then if it comes back a valuable piece, crossover to PCGS. You’ll actually save money since PCGS costs so dang much.

@@kalescullen3600who cares? These are collector's items to coin nerds. Yet what they will piss their pants crying if you clean and shine up an old silver or gold coin YOU OWN. They really only really care about the case, rating, bragging rights. I'm in the metal detecting community so I'm exposed to a lot of this. I personally only seek out gold nuggets, but I've found many silver and even gold coins, dating back to 1849. And I like popping open the small round plastic case and handing it to a friend to feel and enjoy. I have been attacked verbally and literally been threatened because I have an 1849 gold dollar in MS-PRISTINE condition and I handle it like a cool little rock I found. But it's mine. I can melt it if I want. I am not only enjoying holding it, but passing on that feeling to others. And guess what? That coin is still as mint as it was when I found it. It would grade in the MS60+ range, probably 63 minimum by someone who actually understands how to grade. Same as when I dug it up. I'm not selling it so I don't care about anything but major damage or loss. So I do question those who lock their coins down tighter than fort Knox but claim they don't sell. You literally could have the same experience from a photo if you only ever store it in a super thick baseball card sized plastic case

I give up also. Over $800 this year in grading fees for only grades no errors or full flames & bars plus full steps just get AU58 It cost $120 Australian compare $70 American than postage. The cost comparison the grades just not worth it any longer. So let me know if your interested in my coins

That 5c label error might give you a premium on its own. Ive seen a 1923 peacedollar incorrectly labled 1928 by them and it sold for a nice premium

I fought them for 2 months in emails. The obvious ones they agreed to take back and correct. Others I had to take a microscope video showing the variations in order for them to accept they were wrong. In the end they only took back 6 and of those 6 I was correct on 5 of them.

Just because coin is in mint set does not mean it can’t have environmental damage and PCGS only recognizes certain DDO and DDR on coins your job to see what ones PCGS will attribute and the full steps has to be full steps if you really think why would they not want to include it on coin because then they get paid for it so to say PCGS is not given you what you want is not correct you sent your coins to PCGS for there opinion not your opinion on your coin

I may bring many people up to disappointments in the coin collecting business, But every one Should know, No actual grading company is subject for a state Quality control business supervision or a Third party control System... Basically what it means is your coin grading is not subject or determined for the Quality of the coin but most to the none supervised Agencies opinions , Basically that is what it is.. 🤗 .Let's talk about comflit of interest. If you are a collecting agency that have experts as well working in the agency, If you are an expert I am very sure you have your own coin collection , If you want to keep prices hight in your own coins or certain coins you keep giving low grades on key coins and high grade on regular coins ,That is the way to control some coin values for especific owners..🤗 Sorry but that system is a ripp off and unsupervised .a Luxury hobby for a few connected individuals , is not made for the regular Joe smoke collector..😅😅😅

That's why I asked why we should be trusting a grading company who only is interested in making money out of us ? They charge extra money for putting the characteristics of your coins, full steps extra money for them, double die they charge you an extra fee or you should send your coin to another company to be certified with the extra features. Even their own evaluation is different In the first submission they designated it as Questionable color-AU detail but in the second submission that I resubmitted after cracking out they designated it as Cleaned-UNC detail

Use ANACS. I had a PCGS Morgan they called details cleaned. Got it back from ANACS as ms 62 dmpl. Went from a $50 coin to a $250 coin

I haven’t used either of them yet. I use ANACS now and I’m quite happy with them. But if you’re looking to sell them they don’t catch as high a price but hopefully that will change with time

Yep I had a 76 bicentennial quarter with the DDO and they missed it. I went back and forth with them with no results. Sent to NGC and got it no problem and PCGS would not honor it with refund. It was an AU so was very obvious.

I think they’re really good at promoting themselves as the best. Personally I’ve been using ANACS since this debacle and I’m more impressed with them. But since PCGS has done a good job of self promotion, everyone thinks they’re the best and ANACS isn’t. PCGS focuses on promotion and money. ANACS seems to still be about coins. And I personally think they keep out a lot of higher graded coins to keep the market high for certain coins.

The full steps and the environmental damage I can KINDA SEE them not grading but the rest of them are complete nonsense and exactly why I will be sending my pre 33 gold type set to NGC! Something's been going on with PCGS lately I think they hired a bunch of noobs that don't really have the experience or they only like grading certain coins so the rest of them that comes through the door they just skim over either way it's not professional which is the first letter in Pcgs!

@Joshua well, apparently, you haven't seen how the grading services do restorations on coins.. the product I suggested is for removing PVC from silver/gold or coins and is used a lot behind the scenes.. believe me, it's something that will remove PVC from dmpl morgan coins that would be classified as damaged by pvc and bagged by grading services when you pay over 100$ to restore a coin. yes, using other products will definitely damage or etch a coin, but koinsolv is basically for PVC and harsh tape removal. if you worked for coin dealers or in the coin show circuit, you would know about this product. if you don't believe me, ask a dealer on how to remove PVC

It doesn't matter if it's in a mint set. Environmental damage is what it sounds like. The coin got damaged by the way it was stored. Environment had too much heat, moisture, etc. It's not always about how the coin is housed.

But the other coins were in the mint package with them and the nickel that was in the same set was straight graded. Seems odd.

@rockysramblings Different metal content. Also, you really just never know how the coins were stored. The one with environmental damage could have been more exposed to stuff while the other coins had coins on top of them. Almost like how those Morgan dollars toned in bags. Part of the coin can touch the bag and toned until there was another coin in the way. That makes only a corner of the coin to be toned. Environment and storage play a huge role. But I do agree with another commenter, it'll probably be able to be dipped off.

I had to fight with them for 2 months in order for them to refund me the overcharged fees and about 4 months for them to check some of the other coins. They took 5 back, 4 came back what I had suspected them to be. They refused to take back most of them without me paying them to review them. PCGS is a joke

They refused to take back most of my complaints. I wanted them to take it all back and double check but they refused. Of course there offer was to “let” me pay to have them reconsider them. Eventually after 2 months of arguing they took back 7, 5 of those they agreed with me on. Others I sent to ANACS. I just did a video on them. Some was a misunderstanding on my part due to them not making things clear on their app about VAMS. And they did pay me back for over billing me for the VAMS, but it took them 2 months and several reminders.

These grading companies seem to almost manipulate the market values with some of the grades the give to coins that don't deserve the grade and then mess up on things like having that 5c label on a 25c piece. Overall this is a good video and definitely gives good insight on the ugly side of what can happen when submitting coins even for someone who's done it multiple times!

If you got them from someone that didn't store them properly, heat would get trapped though the plastic creating a toned effect. I have a 2018 Innovation dollar that has never been opened out of the case with the same effect.

ANACS for sure. You don’t need a membership to send in and they recognize all varieties. Idk what you have hit sometimes the difference between a big money variety and a small money one is hard to see. It’s worth paying the extra $3 for their research feature. They’ll figure out exactly what you have. The way I see it, if you have something worth big money you can always crossover to PCGS to get their slab if you feel the need to.

PCGS cannot even tell the difference between a real multi struck quarter and a counterfeit. I submitted a quarter that was pulled from a Philadelphia mint bag from the actual Philadelphia mint while at my Uncles home in Pennsylvania in 2004 and I remember him pulling that quarter out in a handful of quarters finding one other minor error in the whole bag. The quarter he found and held onto for 19 years became mine. A quadruple struck Florida state quarter. I submitted it to PCGS 38 days ago only to get a message congratulating me that my coin was on its way. Click the link.... says counterfeit. PCGS mean perfect coin grading scam. I'll stick with NGC and keep my money in Florida.

I haven’t used NGC, but I’ve pretty much switched to ANACS. I’ve been very happy. They recognize all varieties, they’re cheaper and just as good at grading. Most my orders have come back within a month also. I’m over 5 months in on my finally submission to PCGS and still no return.

@@rockysramblings Some metals may be more reactive than others. Just guessing. You did make some valid points in general, I think. PCGS should do better but they did have a backlog. Maybe they are rushing things more to catch up and making more mistakes.

@@bingo7799 I think that’s what is happening. One of their customer service people told me they did hire a bunch of new people. Either they didn’t get trained well, we’re lazy, or they just pushed it through. Labeling a quarter a nickel is pretty weak lol.

I do like the NGC holders more and I don’t like ANACS holders either but my thoughts behind it are that they’re cheap. So I’m considering using them as a filter. To very what I “think” something is. If it doesn’t match what I was hoping I don’t lose as much $. If it meets or exceeds and I want to get it in my PCGS registry then I can cross it over and HOPEFULLY PCGS will agree with ANACS’ grade. 🤷🏼‍♂️
