@ 10:45 . . . 33 to 25 million years ago (or so they say) the clay, sand and gravel layers were deposited from the erosion of the San Gabriel Mountains and the Sierra Pelona Mtns that flooded into the area (now the Santa Clarita River that you crossed over). It was all buried deep enough (and under the ocean at times) There were also small glaciers in the area. Intermittent Glacier melting and flooding caused all the layering and then starting around 25 million years ago the San Andreas Fault formed which caused buckling and uplifting and exposure of the Vasquez Rock Formation. (over simplified version of course)

I swear that picnic table at 12:48 hasn't moved in 14 years! Once again, via your camera, I'm reliving the steps through those 'other-worldly' (trekian) formations. Enjoyed! GK

That Santa Clara River can turn into a raging stream with enough rainfall. I think it’s quite beautiful there. There’s a nice exhibit about the San Andreas Fault to your left as you walk into the Vasquez Rocks Visitor Center.

It’s funny, I lived near that area for many years and didn’t even know about the PCT! I was so busy raising my daughter as a widowed single mom, and working all the time. We used to go for walks around Vasquez Rocks and pick wildflowers near there. It’s beautiful in a dry sort of way.

Water source, yep the Santa Clara R. Vasquez Rocks my stomping grounds. Been their hundreds of times. Tunnel under the 14 and right into Escodido Cañon before Vasquez Rocks. What great videos.

Love that particular section of trail. I hiked the part just before the freeway and then under the freeway and through Vasquez Rocks a couple of years ago. My cover photo is of some of the hillside before the freeway covered in poppy blooms.

What beautiful weather you were having there. And what a lovely place for a couple zeros. Was that a House Wren in the birdhouse? The birdhouse looked like it had two holes for a double entrance. Have never seen that in a birdhouse before. Very cool. Reminded me of the Big Agnes tent that has two side entrances. 🤣. (OK, this proves I’ve been watching w-a-y too many hiking videos 😊) Off now to watch the rest of the video….

I think the "calf pain" comes from speedwalking. Are you maintaining consistent hiking speed, or sprinting some areas especially downhills? Just keep the pace nice/even. You should be okay. Keep on.
@TikiBirdTracy2 жыл бұрын
You are correct! I changed my pace and foot placement on the hills and that has helped immensely 💕

Sounds like you have a knot in your calf. Deep massage helps, but it takes 2 weeks to get mostly better and 3 to go away with massage. Getting off inflammatory food like dairy and sugar may help. When you lay down you can put your calf on your bent knee for deep massage. Massage it a few times a day or more. Worth a try....

Interesting how your calves are giving you trouble. Would'a thunk it'd be worked out by now.
