@ 2:49 Humboldt trail? Maybe "humble" trail? or Humber (Park)? I eventually heard Devil's Side trail (Devil's SLIDE) so I know where that is. Hats off to you for trying. I did it two years ago in wet snow and hated it and got a little frost bite on one toe and conditions were much better than this, all I should have done is wait two more days. Even today it's not ready for hikers unless they know the mountain and have longer spikes.

Yep. The "desert" can do that to you. Wise decision to skip ahead. Interested to see what the downtrail conditions were like. Be safe; keep at it!

Finally got a shot of Devil's Slide by a PCT hiker. Starting in a few days so about 2 weeks behind and was wondering if I needed to ship my axe to PVC. It seems so. The video was shot Mar 17th. I will likely be through that area mid April.

I never quite understand why people start the PCT so early and then have to skip much of the trail around San jacinto. That area is rarely clear before the first week of April and sometimes later. It's also a beautiful area to hike.

I never heard of the name you gave for the trail from Idyllwild. I think you were on the South Ridge Trail if you went to Tahquitz Peak. It's pronounced tah-quits. Devil's Slide is the straight up switchback trail from Fern Valley Road in Idyllwild.

It may be editing but did you skip ahead from Paradise Valley Cafe to Idyllwild? And why did you skip ahead to BB?

He took a side route then found that bit too risky because of a bed of ice. He decided to skip to BB. But yes, the video skipped from PVC to Idyllwild. I assume he hiked it but might have hitched.

Yes because the ridge line before the Devils side trail was extremely dangerous at the time….Fullers Ridge
