Great video. Thanks for sharing. Just curious when were you on top of San Jacinto in 2023?. Still appears to be a lot of snow.

We started on April 23 and we were up there May 7. Lots of snow, it was actually pretty stressful since it had snowed a few days before and we didn’t have crampons, only microspikes. Going up over the summit ended up being the safer option than traversing all of Fuller Ridge. It was hard but I’m so glad we did it!!

@@amykerker we arrived at Idlewild much earlier in 2023. it was mid March and we decided to bail because of the snow and skip ahead. I’m considering returning in May this year. I would like to continue northbound to Kennedy Meadows south. I would like to pick up where I left off at Paradise Café. If it’s a normal snow year do you think early may be a good time to start out from there? If I start too late, I might get cooked on the lower desert sections.

@@MacGyver0692 I think on a normal year it would be fine! And this year is shaping up to (potentially) be a low snow year so you should hopefully be able to get through even earlier…

@@amykerker yes I’ve been following the snow reports and it does look like a much better you’re so far. I appreciate your quick replies. I’ll have to watch your section C video next. From what I am understanding, you weren’t doing a straightforward northbound through hike. I’m a section Hiker I’ve completed Washington and Oregon. I’ve attempted California southbound from the Ashland and last year from Campo. The Dixie fire shut me down in Northern California and last spring the snow. Guess I’m a creature for punishment because I wanna go back. Thanks for this.😊

@@MacGyver0692 sounds like you are almost done then!? Yep, I’m a teacher (took a year’s leave of absence) and didn’t want to go SOBO, so we had to split the hike into 2 summers. The first year we went north from Tahoe and the 2nd year north from Campo. Still haven’t done the Sierra thanks to all the snow last year!!! 😫

My knees hurt whenever you mention the mileage you're doing. I did some sections of the PCT years ago and usually we did around 10, and that was enough.

Haha, we are very much on the low end of a lot of thru hikers! Some people do 30-40s through NorCal and Oregon 😵

I’m so glad you asked, ha! I crafted it based on something I saw on a Facebook post because I know that if I don’t have my water easily accessible, I will never stop and drink. Not sure if this link will work - it’s to a post in the Yogi PCT 2022 group. The straw is from an “ice maker installation kit” from Home Depot and then the washer is a flat washer for a faucet - I really had to force the washer on, at first I thought it wouldn’t fit. @@amykerker You guys are in San Jacinto though as i watch video. I realize now you missed the north end due to fires last year. If missed up north , why ( as it appears) are you south in San Jacinto now? Just curious what I missed.

The plan was to hike Tahoe to the Canadian border last year and Mexico to Tahoe this year. We had to miss the last 30 miles due to fires so we will have to pick that up once we finish this year! 🤞🏻
