I honestly believe 2005-2015 was the best era for hiking, video-making, music, everything. Post 2015 social media took over and completely destroyed what was authentic and good about this world. God bless this video.

Totally feel that. I hiked the AT in '15 and at that point there were hardly any vlogs online. Much more videos that were beautifully edited together and not just "content".

@@mansoda899 Careful guys... This sounds a bit like "the good old days" that we always warned ourselves against with our parents. Authentic stuff still exists. (But I get it too)

I just watched over 3 dozen PCT and AT thru hike videos. Currently making my way thru your playlists and this video has been one of the most enjoyable ones yet. Can't wait to watch your other videos. Thanks for sharing your journey!

I really enjoyed watching this. i have done the PCT from I-10 to the highway leading into Borrego Springs. Beautiful country and a lot of familiar sights. John had a very positive attitude even in trying times such as the poodle bush.

Going back in time (I started w/ your CDT series and watched up thru beginning of GDT before going backward) is trippy. Your bag is so big! Your feet are so slow!

Hey I loved all your videos. I binge watched them and I can't wait to see the Appalachian Trail content finished! Watching you become a hiking machine in a few hours was incredible. In the desert, you hiked with your "pretty much hero" who was putting up huge mile days and you later became that same caliber hiker. I'm about to thru hike the PCT with my wife. I've done the AT but I never did those kind of miles...or even close. What did you do to push yourself to that level besides lighten up your pack? Keep creating brother, you are an inspiration to professional and amature adventures alike.

That's awesome! I am still no Swami, though... He remains my hero. A good tip for higher miles is to find your 'forever' pace and stick to it, no faster no slower, and never stop. Walk during sunrise. Walk during sunset. Walk through out the day. Minimize your breaks. You don't need breaks at your forever pace. My idea of a break is filling up my water bottle and swapping my wrappers out for some new food. Best of luck on the PCT! Don't get too caught up in miles, they will come naturally. Light pack + sustainable pace = easy miles, and a lot of them

Took your advice and am doing the PCT before the CDT. As PCT is a much better marked trail, did you find you had to use your compass often? What maps did you use for this trip? Thanks in advance John!
@JohnZahorian8 жыл бұрын
Sweeeet. I just use a tiny little clip compass. It was VERY good to have when there was abnormally high snow in the cascades and clouds came in. Half mile maps are the standard on the PCT. People nowadays will have them on their phone and maybe have physical copies when going into areas with significant snow. Also lots of people use the guthook app. I've never used a smartphone for navigation so I can't speak to either of those.
