Love your magical mix of emotions, epic scenery, practical daily life…even the joy of a new box of shoes! I am in for all the miles and all the moving parts of this adventure, so well shared.

Hey, fellow 2022 thru-hiker here (I don't think our paths crossed). Just found your channel via a post on Reddit. Enjoying your videos so far. Obviously it's not so helpful now, but here's a tip that might help for future hikes. You mentioned getting heal blisters, especially when you sized up your shoes. There are actually multiple ways to lace shoes that can make a huge difference. One is called a heel lock and uses the extra lace hole that most shoes include (and most people don't use) to snug up the heel area. You can find cool diagrams online illustrating the various lacing techniques or videos on KZbin if interested in learning more.

@5:11 Yup... I sleep in City Hall too this season (2023). There is no power in City Hall, but I was able to hang my Duplex up on the rafters and dry it over night.

Such a pivotal moment in the journey... rising above the injuries and finally having a body that can be put on cruise control. Glad we powered through those early tough times and made it so far :)

Thanks brother 👊 you’ve got a crazy impressive AT resume! I’m also an east coaster. You thinking of doing any westward trails, or stickin to the Appalachians?

The desert was such a collage of faces and moments. We also met there at our Kennedy Meadows pitstop but I didn't have footage of it :) then didn't see you until Washington I think?

@@CaptainJackHikes yeah I couldn't rule out that we were somewhere at the same time somewhere else, but I think the next time I saw you was at White Pass?

@@caitlin.hardee yeah, that sounds right. As I remember you crossed the Oregon border just a couple days ahead of the McKinley fire? That may have been where our trajectories were separated for a while. Were you at trail days?

@@CaptainJackHikes even less ahead than that, folks were evacuated from the border half a day's hike behind me, and while I was hiking into Ashland that morning, the closure was extended up to that campground, probably literally as I passed through it. Skin of my teeth. I think I got to Cascade Locks a couple days after Trail Days, could have jumped up and then gone back but I wasn't feeling that much crowd action tbh. definitely spent more time in Oregon than most folks due to the road walks and meeting my folks at Elk Lake, my dad hiked with me a couple days after that and we were doing super relaxed miles for Oregon standards.

@@caitlin.hardee WOW, I was about 1.5 days behind you then... got booted off trail at Seiad Valley when they started evacuating. You may have made the right call on Trail Days... I did enjoy seeing an array of familiar faces from across the journey... but I also felt a little put off by the crowd action of it all. I'll talk about the mixed feelings of that in a later episode.
