Try replacing the clutch slave cylinder under the dash. I spent so many hours on it before I passed it off to my mechanic which spent 2 more days on it. He was not happy about it and said that he'd never work on another Mazda. LOL They make it so hard to work on (2008 Mazda5, here).

@@lmd6204 The Duratec engine was used on a ton of cars. Depending on the application, certain things can be harder than on one car than others. A PCV is a piece of cake on a Ford Ranger with the same engine. On a FWD, it's a nightmare.

Here are some tips: If you put your car on jacks so you can get under the car easier and as well as not have to bend over the car as much since you will be at this for a while. If you have somebody help you it will make the process much more bearable. When I did it I ended up taking the whole manifold off because there arent that many more connections than you have already removed at this point. Be very careful with the pcv valve itself. I snapped mine in half trying to get it out before I took the whole manifold out and the hose that was on it was a pain to get off it as well. Another fair warning is that when you are removing the fuel rail sometimes the actual injector won't come out and you will have gas coming out so have some rags ready when removing the fuel line as well as some of the coolant hoses. Like the guy in the vid said since you are going this far you may as well replace the gaskets and the pcv hose which are both cheap. Hope this helps and good luck.

Yes. Thank you for your advice. I have a 2008 Mazda 3 and the Haynes Repair Manual advises to first relieve gas pressure, remove front bumper to get to the airbox fasteners (this step doesn't appear to be too complicated), and then remove the intake manifold bolts. The only fuel rail mention is to disconnect the hose that goes into it. Seems like the bumper is in the way for most of this job, I guess. I will follow this method when it's time to replace the valve. Thanks again!

Next video for you pretty easy changing the oxygen sensors. Right tools should be a bit easier.

What about oil in the intake side? I cleaned the throttle body and cleaned on the engine side throat of intake and the toothbrush came out wet with oil. I expect some oil vapor but wet is probably a sign the PVC is stuck open? Valves probably covered in oil. Did you notice oil on your intake or valves?

Lew Scagnetti Well no reason really, I am the third owner of the car. And I know the last 2 owners personally and know that they never maintained the car, it had 120k when I bought it. So I thought it might be time to change it. Symptoms of a PCV valve that is bad is usually that the car is burning some oil.

@AnthonyAwada
@AnthonyAwada 6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Curnow You are very welcome Jeff. You do not need to drain the cooling system unless you start taking upper radiator hose or other large hose off the radiator. I took a small hose (connecting to the throttle body) and a little fluid came out ( few drips). Since its just one hose, not enough coolant came out and not enough air went in for me to want to drain the system. Hope this helps!

Hello Mark, there is no thread on the PCV. The only thing holding it down is that circular clip. The way those two clip holes are positioned it is easier to turn clockwise to remove it. Just pull gently while turning clockwise.

bhadz100 please correct me if I'm wrong. My 2.3L engine from my Mazda 6 (naturally aspirated) knock sensor is near the crank pulley. Easiest way was to take the passenger tire or and the wheel arches and you could get to it. Of course, the 2.3L on the CX-7's were turbocharged and might be different. Cx-7 also came in 2.5L NA options and also could vary. Let me know what works.

bhadz100 yes, or one 3 inch extension and a deep socket 10. You will have to pull the radiator back by hand to get your ratchet on. Also when putting that bolt back, I slight taped the bolt to the socket so it wouldn't fall while putting it in. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you very much sir!Sorry about the code, code p0500 is a problem with the vehicle speed sensor circuit.here are the 4 things that could have gone wrong. 1)Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM )2) Vehicle speed sensor circuit poor electrical connection 3)Vehicle speed sensor harness or connectors is open or shorted 4)Faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor.Most times its the vehicle speed sensor that goes bad. I hope that's your only problem because that's an easy fix. The sensor costs like $20. and it simple to replace. Your speedometer wont work until this problem is fixed and your transmission could start shifting weird.

Hey could you tell me what the wire that runs behind the manifold goes to? I think the grey plug at 21 minute mark in the video is the wire I'm talking about I'm just not sure what it connects to behind the manifold. Thanks

Hi Ryan, I currently have my intake manifold off. There is a wire that goes behind the intake manifold on the left side. This is the engine knock sensor wire. The sensor is bolted to the block behind the intake manifold, near the center of the block.

I'm used to spending about $5 on a PCV valve and taking less than 5 minutes to replace it.

Many manufacturers' engineers need to be re-educated ! It's absolutely shameful this happens in this century!!

Why do manufacturers put things in places that make it so hard to service. A PCV valve is supposed to be changed at service intervals. 50-80k km. Why make it so hard if its something that needs to be changed a few times over the vehicle lifetime. Mazda did this with the fuel filter as well being inside the gas tank It's either not change these things at regular intervals till the car blows up or do so at huge labour costs.

Thanks for this Anthony! Did you have to drain the cooling system? I've watched this a couple of times so I'm sorry if I missed that. I have some instructions on how to do this and they say to drain the cooling system first.
