@@richardlloydusa the wife has a Hyundai Entourage which had some carbon buildup in the throttle body and a check engine light. Cleaned up the carbon, but the car is running a bit roughly at times, so this might be my smoking gun. Figured this video might help bc I think it's the same engine.

Not yet. When I go forward with that job I will also be replacing the wires and the valve cover gaskets as they are leaking on my vehicle. The intake manifold needs to come off for both jobs so I will do them both at the same time. Thanks.

That's a good idea. Proper ventilation and regular oil changes should take care of the problem. Take a look at your oil cap and see if there's sludge on it as well as use a flashlight to look down through the oil fill port to see how it's looking in there too. Thank you so much for commenting. Many parts like that are not in the service books, seems like manufactures don`t want us to know about them. My old Ford Diesel had an EGR filter knowhere listed it, Nissen X trail Diesels has a small filter on the injection pump that`s a secret lol, thing is do these parts get changed at the main dealers, probably not.

As long as the engine makes it past the warranty period everything is good from a dealer's point of view. I am not sure what Hyundai is thinking on this part is other than they are counting that it wont fail during the warranty period. On a Hyundai that means they don't think it will fail during the first 100,000 miles. I don't have that kind confidence in a PCV valve. Easy to check and cheap to replace so I don't understand not putting it on the maintenance schedule. I will be checking it on a regular basis. All the best.

On an older model Santa Fe (2003) 2.7 L ..would it give you a CEL if the EGR or PCV goes bad ?

I don't think the computer is monitoring the PCV directly but if it is not functioning eventually it will cause other more severe issues that could give you a CEL. Thanks.

It will draw an evap code of some sort that may not always indicate the exactly emissions problem. my intake hoses were not connected correctly but the ECM threw an EGR valve code. As soon as I had the hoses aligned correctly, the code disappeared. Hyundai's are shitty cars with poor design, especially the older models. Mine is an 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5 L. This guy's video is pretty helpful really..

Simple. Go to an auto parts store website in your area, lookup pcv valve, enter the year, make, model of your car to identify the proper fitment of pcv valve for your specific car. Print it and take it with you to the auto parts store and Bob is your uncle.
