@@JimmyFantage The New 2DS XL is literally just the New 3DS XL without the "3D", it's exactly the SAME hardware, with a different casing. Since it is cheaper for Nintendo to manufacture the 2DS XL vs the 3DS's special screen (which is basically 2 screens in one that adjusts the view manually). New 2DS XL = cheaper 3DS XL, same performance, same resolution, same compatibility etc.

Its not. But there is also no justifiable reason for it to be that high either. Believe me there are various softwares made in japan that teams of people had to work 20+ hour days to make that don't cost that much. By the looks of it, its fairly cheaply made. Most of the money to make the game likely went toward licensing with Nintendo and a 3ds dev kit. Ultimately, something is worth what people will pay for it i guess... even if it is a cheaply made piece of shit app.

I think it is worth it. A. It is made by 2 eye doctors. Which is worth something. You said any old programmer can make it. And while it isn't technically impressive. A programmer would at least need to consult with eye doctors to make sure that he is doing things right and not making subtle mistakes B. It spits out accurate data. Which usually has to be received through cumbersome measurements. C. Usually thing that isn't intended for a mass market is more expensive. Especially because it isn't cheap to get a 3DS dev-kit and E-Shop license. So the few customers who buy it pay more. Edit: Also, You can buy 1 copy and use it all over a clinic. So even though it is $300 for 1, it is $2100 for 10. $300 worth of equipment for 1 room would still be $3000 for 10 rooms.

A piece of software's price may also reflect the number of people the developer actually expects to purchase it. If there are about 37,000 eye doctors in the US (according to the bureau of labor's statistics from about a year ago) and if every one of them buys this app, that's a pretty decent profit. But the actual sales numbers will probably be much lower than that. Still, if one out of every hundred eye doctors picks it up, that's $37,000 . . . minus whatever Nintendo's cut is. Could be as much as 30%. I'm not saying that the developer was barely keeping the lights on, but they're not making crazy amounts of money either. Then again, it doesn't seem like it would take that long to make an app like this, though it depends on the developer's level of familiarity with the 3DS. Cranking out an app designed to work on PC or in a web browser is much faster than making something work on a unique piece of hardware. And I suppose they'd need to buy a development kit too. But yeah, developers usually have to find that balance between development cost and total units they expect to sell in order to determine what to sell each unit for. Games that are more of a niche product tend to be sold at a higher price or have noticeably lower production values.
@zeyode5 жыл бұрын
I don't think the challenge in making this app was necessarily any sort of programming skill. The challenge was likely a programmer that had no experience in ophthalmology creating a tool for it. The doctor that sold it likely had to work very closely with the app's programmer, or teach himself to code.
@chistinelane5 жыл бұрын
Medical equipment is always overpriced to the point that it actually reduces quality of care because most clinics simply cannot afford good enough equipment for their clients. Something should really be done about this, but it seems like people just accept it. That app looks very cheap. Like it was made in 2 week maximum if devs had day jobs and kids.

Yeah this stuff can be programmed in 2 seconds, but I think that the main reason this program has this asking price is due to all the tests and research papers that went into making sure this is professionally acceptable as a medical tool, which I think might up the asking price by a fair bit. I hope that's the case at least and that it's not intentionally overpriced because everything else is like Dr. Robert seems to be implying, as those equipment costs are ultimately being paid by the people needing the eye tests, and with a lower price for equipment like this means more people would be able to get a proper diagnosis.

While Amazon isn't a traditional place for doctors to buy stuff, some doctors might end up buying things there. There are some items in the medical category restricted to business accounts. I think vets buy things from there more often though.
