Dude, so I'm over here waiting for some street tacos at my local Taco truck where I live, and I just saw a notification for your new video, and I literally screamed out loud! The funny thing is it was so loud everybody turned around and looked at me like I was crazy LOL! I said it's PDX DUH!! True story hahaha.. Great job as always my friend and I love your work. I truly admire and respect you, andy.

I forgot to say I loved the story in the beginning. I love listening to people talk about music and their experiences of it, especially when they truly love what they speak of. I loved your enthusiasm and authenticity in your voice. I am reminded of WHY I LOVE MUSIC TOO... Thanks PDX...

LOL thanks Andy!!! Regarding your comment below, there is always a story behind these bands and our youth, right? I'm glad you enjoyed that too because I was admittedly worried some people would say "blah blah blah get to the lesson!" Maiden was just such a special band to me at that point in time. My friends and I were so infatuated with the band in 1985... it was our year of Maiden! I remember I got really good at drawing Eddie and even spray painting him. Man if my parents only knew what I was doing at the age of 13! Then again, they were relaxed enough to let me spend the night outside of a record store in L.A. :)

@@PDXguitarfreak Dude that's awesome!! I remember my first REAL concert was actually a punk rock show. It was AFI and The Vandals. I just remember the power of those first opening chords hitting me in the chest... I remember watching them play with such energy and emotion, and then at that time I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to do! Another great concert Iw ent to around that age was "Satch, Dream Theater, and Kings X....Fucking John tore it up. I might have been under the influence of a little more then just life, but his playing just seemed so much larger then life, like how on earth does one play like that?! Haha! Never got to see Eddie, but I would give anything to see Van Halen and Nirvana, 2 very different yet extremely ground breaking acts I. Their own respect. Thanks for sharing and much respect! 👊👊😉🎸🎶

I was there too. In the Navy,( that would make a good song title😊). TS opened and I met Dee Snider years later and talked to him about that concert.
@PDXguitarfreak Жыл бұрын
I remember Dee was upset because he couldn't get the entire arena on their feet, and he had the house lights turned on. LOL Such a grandstander :) Regardless it will always be one of the best concerts of my life because of Maiden.

And they say Maiden is overrated haha. Man, your playing gave me goosebumps. The tone is just right, not too gainy, and your articulation is second to none. I fuckin love your channel mate, I'm gonna make sure I donate something to keep it goin. Love it!!!

Nice lesson I saw iron maiden in the Seattle colosseum in the 80s and it was the best concert I've ever seen in my entire life !!! Dave murray and Adrian Smith have very unique styles of soloing and I'm very curious to know how dave Murray got his style of soloing it's very cool and unique and very fast !!! I think he uses legato or maybe a ton of hammer ons and pull offs and vibrato & whammy bar and Hendrix wah wah pedal and probably a few other thing's as well , I like thier twin harmonies like Judas priest but faster well at least until priest came out with painkiller that is !!! I love ides of March (great song) & that whole album dianno was great Bruce is great too !!! My favorite albums are the first 5 maiden albums with 2 dianno and then 3 Bruce
@PDXguitarfreak3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Doug! I always loved that Dave and Adrian had slightly contrasting but very complimentary styles. It seemed Dave to your point was very much into fast hammer-ons and pulls-offs (or trills), and Adrian had more of the bluesy/feel thing going on... then there were times where they just sounded alike and complimentary. I agree about the first 5 albums. All are super classic :)

That was totally amazing - Now please tab both solos of the live version of Lights out on London. Everything Maiden knows is a lesser version of Schenker - In fact upon MS, Adrian Smith Died his hair blond to look like the Master. Schenker is the best metal soloist of all time- your version of armed and ready is amazing- but I've never seen a tab for lights out in l london from Strangers in the Night
@thomasanderson92023 жыл бұрын
Hey PDX. I love your lessons. I am a 50 year old guitar player from Sweden. I never sat down and figured these solos out but I have a pretty good idea how they are played. You played them perfectly. One thing though. This is in no way meant to be criticism. We all strive for learning the solos from our favorite artists note for note. There is one section in Adrians solo that is confusing. I wonder if he does his famous two string lick in the solo? The one he uses in the Wasted Years solo where he picks the high E and pulls-off on the B-string? Look at 3:20 into this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYDZdIOAfM-Un6c looks like he picks the high E. Doesn't really matter. The way you do it sounds great and who cares really. I just have this part of my brain that wants to know exactly the mystery behind these solos.
@PDXguitarfreak3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, thank you! That is a very interesting observation that you have made. Now I go back and listen to the original with a new perspective. I have never seen anyone play it that way, but now I am very curious. :)

Nothing like some Old School Metal \m/ 🎸. Dave n Adrian what a great combination of guitar players. Each player has a different feel. Legato licks n Blues licks. I remember the first song I heard from them back in the day was WRATH CHILD ! Awesome !You should consider doing more tunes like this. Digging it. ROCK ON BRO! 👊 🎸. Did a video for the intro to VH Little Guitars acoustic check it out when you get a chance.

Hey Sotirios! They really are/were a great combo. Dave and his trills, and Adrian and his feel... so complimentary too. I can't remember the first Maiden tune I heard.. but some reason I want to say it was Flight of Icarus. Great stuff! :)

Sections would sound like octave clefs Solo One: Section One - Treble clef Section Two - Treble clef 8vb Section Three - Treble clef Section Four - Treble clef Solo Two: Section One - Treble clef Section Two - Treble clef Section Three - Treble clef 8vb Section Four - Treble clef 8vb then Treble clef

Check out Walking Shoes by Tora Tora. Adtube lessons don't sound right. Sometimes I can figure out harder stuff and simple stuff gives me fits.
@jacksonmarshallkramer50872 жыл бұрын
It would be cool if you had some rhythm licks and intros for some songs. Even after having played for many years, 1985, I find that I play stuff wrong. Especially now that isolated tracks are coming out. I'm an ear player. ZERO theory. Maybe play the intro and parts up to the solo normal and slow. No breakdown. Just watching it done is usually good for me.
