Thanks for making these videos. Very informative. Great job on the backyard as well.

pretty nice job. One tip that almost no one does, when you install the fireplace ring, I like to put it with the holes firing down not up. This way you don't get a "ring of fire" instead you get what looks like a nice natural flame. Also it is less likely to get water and debris in it if the holes are facing down. I wouldn't use flexible stainless steel to support the ring, I would use galvanized iron to go from the fireplace valve and this would also help support the ring. Finally, I don't think you needed the additional shut-off valve, as there is already a shut off on the meter, and like you said another one at each appliance, but if it makes you feel good that's fine.

Cool. You've given me the courage to try this. I was going to run 1" or 1 1/4". I have about the same length you did. My burner is only 150000btu. What do you think?

Did you put the regulator inside the fire pit?

Hey Paul. Could you share which burner you used in your fire pit? How has it held up? Your instal looks great and your videos have been a huge help.

Great job on this. Question, is the only "regulator" for your flame the key valve. There is no pressure regulator between the key valve and the ring burner like on a propane hookup. thanks.

Tim Nordlund pressure is regulated at meter

I was hoping to see what a 300k btu fire pit looked like. Mine is 36” and 100k and it’s massive.

Hey Paul fire pit looks great . What did you use to hook it up to the gas line coming from the ground under the fire pit? I have a gas line from a old pool heater in my yard I would like to use for a fire pit . Please list everything you used from that point on if you can. That would be very helpful. Thanks!

If you watch part 1 of the video you can see the plastic PE gas pipe and riser. The riser connects the plastic pipe and converts it to metal pipe. From there, you can use standard plumbing pipe (e.g. galvanized) to make connections. I chose to use a flexible 3/4" x 36" stainless steel hose to connect to the center of the fire ring. This just made the final connection easier.

Paul Di Maggio very cool and nice work! You mean black pipe though, yes? Not galvanized for gas.

Paul - how did you set and secure the two risers at meter and your fire pit. since you are using flex hose, need to know how to secure.

So PG&E installed a bigger CFH for free including labor and materials? I live in San Diego area.
@pauldimaggio37798 жыл бұрын
Yes. The said there could possibly be an engineering cost, however, they didn't end up charging me anything. I think it's just a warning but generally PG&E is happy to install a bigger meter and sell you more gas.

Did they ask for a building permit? Also, where did you get the pipe that you can't get at hardware stores?
@pauldimaggio37798 жыл бұрын
Yes i got a permit from the city prior to doing the work--see part 1 of the video. You can get the plastic pe gas pipe at a plumbing supply shop. I got it at Fergusson's. You can get metal plumbing pipe fittings at home depot.

Hi Paul, did you use any type sleeve around the riser where it exits the concrete beneath the fire pit? Thanks.
@pauldimaggio37798 жыл бұрын
No. The risers are designed to be buried, no sleeves required. The top part of the riser is metal which you can connect directly to metal plumbing pipe fittings.

Paul, thank you for this video. I am searching for anyone that can help me. I had a plumber install a gas line, which is sticking up in the middle of a new blue stone patio awaiting a fire table install. I went to purchase a restoration hardware table, but the installation directions show the pipe and some 8 foot hose would be sitting on the EXTERIOR of the unit, not from underneath. I have called Real Flame, the retailer of the unit and they claim that it is dangerous and not possible to hook up the gas under the table. They cannot provide me with any photos of how this would look. My plumber wants nothing to do with changing the unit to hook up underneath. I am exhaustively searching and come up with nothing. Can you weigh in on this? Thank you in advance!

The underground line is plastic PE gas pipe. See part 1 of the video

Sure. I used a 48" triple ring burner purchased here for $255. www.allbackyardfun.com/burners-fire-rings/fire-pit-rings/48-triple-fire-pit-ring-burner/ Holding it up, I actually just used some extra retaining blocks underneath the ring. I placed the flame holes facing up. You can place them facing down also to prevent water from getting in. I just decided to face them up so I wasn't burning the ring itself more than necessary. I don't have any issue with water in the ring and I'm sure if any gets in there it evaporates out quickly once the fire pit heats up.
