watched to decide if i want to buy... strategy is too shallow. foe are too weak to long range missiles and overly passive about pushing sensor towers used to attack them. some sort of jammer cwis combo that gets bonuses to destroying missiles the further they are fired from, no high alpha siege units to counter tower creep, a modifier to aggro distance based on how many turrets the sensors can call on. like the devs want the same audience as factorio but shooting bots instead of bugs, making the combat a bigger part of the game but without improving the combat.
@doctort285311 ай бұрын
@@MrJay_Whitethis game is still in early access and more combat stuff will come out. It is incredibly difficult to make the combat 3D with planets and systems so get some patience :) the game even without the enemy is fun enough for me so anything above that is a bonus
@doctort285311 ай бұрын
@@MrJay_Whitestrategy against the dark fog is currently shallow I agree but the hard part is skipped here. It is difficult to manage all the power and production while defending on a planet with 0.5x or even 0.1x resources. Nilaus took care of the hard part and only showcased the actual interaction. Maybe try you own playthrough before commenting like this😊

@@MrJay_WhiteLet's be honest, bugs in Factorio were super basic as well for a very long time. DSP is probably ahead of the curve already comparatively. And combat isn't the main focus anyways, it's logistics, which DSP does quite well.

I personally kept a zoo on one of my starter planets. had 3 bases in a fairly tight cluster along with... well a mess close to what you've been fighting I capped all but those 3 and then built a ring of laser defenses around them. The lasers and bases are just far enough away to not get shot or shoot at the buildings but wipe out anything that gets leaves the fog base. I setup signal towers in such a way that the missles will only firesupport if the enemy starts geting to my defensive wall. This limits the amount of ammo I expend, 90% is just pure energy. I'm getting a nice supply of drops filtering out of the wall and if the drops filter is right I should start seeing unipolar magnets soon. They've been on ignore for quite a few hours while I've setup strip mining, smelting collums and factories accross the starting system. Planin to start pushing out to other systems soon.

Manually targeting the core of the bases and getting that down first is much faster. The range of Meca is pretty good when doing manual shooting. The rest of the connected items will not function after the core is down, which means less attackers and no lasers.
@doctort285311 ай бұрын
The range of mech is good but it still doesn’t outrange the static defense from dark fog. And going in alone is difficult. Also with the amount of stuff in there, clicking on the core itself is a challenge. I don’t think it will work in an early game of (near) max difficulty

I feel like the space hives should be way more reactive to planetary bases being destroyed at max difficulty. At least they reacted, at lower difficulties they are basically passive and of no concern.
@japaroads11 ай бұрын
I think that will happen once orbital construction and combat is better implemented. The devs said they’ve nerfed space dark fog for now until they add in more tools for us to use against them.
@plastictouch679611 ай бұрын
That is just because he isn't attacking the platforms. Not attacking the platforms allows the fog to keep the matter collected and use it in the hive. So by not attacking the platforms you are letting them build more ships which makes it harder later. That's why in the next video it is a war of attrition against the swarms because they have an insane amount of resources. Furthermore if the swarm does end up attacking you before you have planetary shields you end up decimated, it sets you back tremendously and would make the game unplayable. It's really easy to end up in a death spiral where your factory and guns are destroyed and so you can't defend against the ground assaults and so you keep getting destroyed and so on. Giving the player a meaningful option which makes it take longer for them to attack is a good thing. The swarms are really strong and obliterating everything on your planet and there is no counterplay until you get shields. Furthermore, I think it's understated how fast and efficient nilhaus has been in the series. I've been following along in my own game with what he has been doing and it has taken me like 10 more hours to get to the same point he is at utilizing the same methods. By now the swarms have attacked me multiple times. The first time was just barely as I was getting my shields up and so it was a crazy race against time to get a shield over my hub so I could rebuild stuff.

You could rush to corvettes and snipe the relays. And if you do it in remote system, DF punishment fleet won't even have a base to burn, wonder what they'd do.
@Nilaus11 ай бұрын
I am barely on Yellow science, so totally not an option
@aimozg11 ай бұрын
@@Nilaus I think it is. Purple can be unlocked on early yellow science, corvettes are 600 purple with no prerequisites, and the science cubes themselves are mostly silicon (can get from stone) and nanotubes (ugh!). Ground bases have no space defense and you just kill their relays, leaving them powerless, only with whatever units they had - and an angry punishment fleet flying to your homeworld, but that's solvable. So I believe this is a solid strategy for clearing 3rd planet and onwards. I'm playing on max difficulty + x0.1 resources and have a similar system (20+ bases on lava planet which I'm clearing right now), and likely won't be able to afford such massive assaults (copper is as valuable as gold).

Im 99% certain the Space Fleet armada didn't /actually/ attack you last episode. They did launch the offence, indeed, but tracking the fleet distance marker makes me think they didn't arrive. Propably their trajectory was parralell to the tangent of orbit at the point you were at. You can see it never got below 0.6AU (which is quite a distance yet - 24km, so running around the planet wouldn't impact it). They prolly couldn't catch up (but were too close to using warp), gave up and called the attack off. Also, there's almost no way we wouldn't notice big ass space vessels orbiting the planet as they don't just come and hover around your base.
@mr.rabbit564211 ай бұрын
..or, once the attack commences they are sent to a point in you're currently at (not at the planet), so they arrived at the initial location, found none of your buildings (in freefloat in space XD) and called it a day.
@mr.rabbit564211 ай бұрын
Neither they did in this episode. Since 12:07 all until 15:00 when the entire attack ends you can see the marker stays in AU units (0.64AU at 14:35, which is as far as Wichu III at 18:27). Idk now if the plant trajectory matters tbh. Maybe you're just too far from the hive base

I wonder if, rather than evicting the relay station, it might be better to keep it there while you're clearing the planet. As far as I'm aware, when you evict a station it returns to the space hive to refill and then immediately travels back -- not always to the same planet, but often. And because you don't have full infrastructure set up yet, it would successfully establish another base. I think it might be more effective to clear the buildings but leave the station there, just keeping a signal tower chain or a gauss/implosion turret bank nearby to clean up whenever it rebuilds. Then, once you've cleared all the bases, you build the shield and/or tower full coverage, and only then evict all the stations, such that they won't be able to return. There's still a bit of a race since they'll eventually leave on their own if they exhaust their matter, but unless I'm missing something it sounds more reliable.

It seems to me that once you've destroyed all the current bases in the system, it might we worthwhile to destroy any new orbital ships to trigger attack waves. Since they shouldn't be able to rebuild lost ships this will effectively send their ships piece-meal into your missile defenses. Obviously, everything important should be covered by planetary shields.

I think he wants to use the entire lava planet to set up a new main bus line? Also prepared to starve the hives in this system so it is easier to kill them when he has his Dyson sphere up and running. The drop is negligible once you get a production line going and the only thing that is really valuable is those you can’t yet mine/produce. But in order to get any of those he would need to wait for too long so the dark fog get more levels.
