The situation in Israel is a complete disaster. Unfortunately the acts of terrorism perpetrated by Hamas and their affiliates has created a unworkable situation that has no easy solution. No legitimate state could allow a threat of that scale to fester just across the border. Secondly, the nature of the 10/7 attack was seen by westerners as essentially a modern version of a pre-civilizational raid. Even though there is no separation in a moral sense between killing by the push of a button a thousand miles away, and taking a life with one's bare hands (one could even make the argument that removing oneself from the equation is even more depraved) the fact is westerners have a innate sense of revulsion towards acts of pure barbarism which was what occurred. One cannot engage in r@pe and pillage and expect to be given charter. Had Hamas limited their incursion to military targets and operated within the accepted rules of engagement then this terrible situation could have gone differently.
