Healthcare providers are with patients during “some of the scariest times” of their lives, says Therese Horan.
A scary experience of her own showed Therese how care could be better for everyone - especially those who share her indigenous heritage.
Therese is a nurse practitioner and certified nurse-midwife for PeaceHealth Medical Group in Bellingham, Washington. "I find so much joy in helping people be able to be empowered to navigate the medical system on their own terms,” she says.
Thanks to her inclusive perspective and patient advocacy, Therese is the recipient of PeaceHealth’s 2024 overall systemwide Mission and Values Award.
MVAs are PeaceHealth's highest annual honor. They recognize caregivers for living PeaceHealth’s Mission and Values (Social Justice, Stewardship, Respect and Collaboration).
