Madeline Mudd my 14 year old just had a bilateral stroke. The doctors can't find out what caused it. I am trying to find answers and be informed so I can help her the best I can. She is going through depression right now and anxiety because she is aware of everything that is happening. Today is a month in the hospital and it gets harder. She is able to walk and you can't even see it outside that she had a bilateral stroke. She is not in any type of birth control or obese in any way. She just slept more that usually and when I woke her up she was talking slurred and could not see past her hands. I took her to the er and they thought she had adem. They were treating her for 2 1/2 weeks as an autoimmune disease and not a stroke. Her health was declining and I asked for her to be transferred somewhere else. We got transferred to a better hospital and here is where they found out it was a stroke. Right now she started having pain in her hands and legs. She has a lot of headaches as well. She has no blood cloths or bleeding in her brain. There are no problems in her blood vessels nor any swollen veins they just don't know what caused a bilateral stroke.

My father got a stroke in 2010. I had just started going to college and life was great. One day, while sitting in class and talking my new girlfriend at the time, my mom calls me and says that dad got a stroke and that it's really bad and that she's coming to pick me up so we can visit him in the hospital. I was in total shock but was hoping for the best. Not really knowing what a stroke was and what the effects of it were. Mom picked my brother up first and then me. I had never seen my mom drive this fast and recklessly before, which was very alarming and had me nervous. At the hospital, the doctor showed us to my dads room and before walking in the room, I remember being hopeful that maybe, just maybe he was going to be fine. I stepped inside and saw my dad and he looked fine. He looked normal. The same way he always did. I asked him how he was. But no response. He just looked at me with an empty expression. I asked him again how he was doing and he just kept looking at me without saying a word. My palms started sweating and I didn't understand what was happening. The doctor took us out of the room and told us that he couldn't speak a word and that he might never speak again. He also couldn't understand much of what we were saying. I remember feeling a warm feeling of panic and anger and sadness flushing over me. I spent the next hour trying to get him to understand anything at all or get him to say anything, but nothing would help and it was the most hopeless feeling I had ever felt in my life. I grew up in a fosterhome you see, and all my life I dreamed of the day I was old enough to move out from my fosterfamily and hang out with my real dad and do fun stuff together. Sadly, I only got to hang out with my dad twice and then this happened. My whole dream of adulthood and friendship with my biological father was all taken away from me in an instant. All those years of waiting for something that was never going to happen. He got a little better over the years, but just enough to where he could speak a little bit and then he died in 2017. I miss him very much. I made sure to hug him and tell him how much I loved him every single time I met him after that stroke. Take good care of your loved ones and make sure they know how much you love them, because you just never know when they'll be gone. Thanks for sharing your story, Madeline. I am wishing you the best future possible.

These four young women perfectly captured what having a stroke can do. If it was just the stroke itself without the lingering deficits, it would not be bad. However, it's the recovery that takes its toll physically and emotionally. It changes you in ways even now two years after my stroke I am just beginning to understand. Thank you for sharing and I wish these ladies and anyone else going through stroke recovery all the best.

Yes indeed. Injury to any other part of the body does not change who you are. The brain though? Your brain is you. You are your brain. @@Suaveone1 No sir I did not. Neurologists decided to NOT go in (catheter-directed thrombolysis) or use the "gold standard" drug of "tPA" for fear of causing a bigger stroke due to the fact that I have a mechanical aortic valve and am on blood thinners (catheter procedure and tPA can cause massive bleeding which is a no-no with warfarin patients) for the rest of my life. My 2 week recovery at the hospital consisted with a regimen of raising my "INR levels" with a daily high dosage of heparin and warfarin. At my 6 month and 1 year follow up, the neurologist confirmed that my stroke was still there with the CT scans of my head. She said that a little region of my brain is "dead" and that my body will adjust to it by building a barrier around it but other than that, I'm ok right now and back to work which makes me happy to know that I once have a productive life again. Still a little slurred speech and cloudy thoughts here and there but other than that, everything else is fine! To other stroke survivors, continue with your physical/speech/rehab therapy and don't give up hope! ❤❤ Catheter directed throbolysis www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info.cfm?pg=thrombo#:~:text=Catheter%2Ddirected%20thrombolysis%20is%20a,damage%20to%20tissues%20and%20organs. tPA drug www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/stroke/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20350119

i had a stroke when I was 14, two weeks before Christmas. I spent the first four days of my Christmas break in the ICU. that year I never took my final exams.... Because I collapsed in the hallway and was sent home early. At first they treated it like a seizure and it wasn't until five years later when I ask my doctor why half my body had been numb almost completely for 5 years.... I figured out it was a stroke..... I vividly remember every single detail of the before during and after of the seizure like stroke but I don't remember anything of the year-and-a-half that followed. I don't remember ever being 15. I don't remember my 16th birthday. I don't remember the majority of my sophomore year of high school. I I loved watching this video because I thought that I was the only person that has ever been so young, had a stroke, survived, and functioned so well. I had my stroke in December of 2010 and to this day my mother has no idea it was a stroke. I was a high risk for seizures and strokes when I was a kid because I have a lot of problems with my brain. I have hydrocephalus, a rare cyst, and cerebral palsy. They said that the stroke risk was lessened considerably once I passed the age of 12. oops. Today, I'm a floor manager at a retail store, I'm in marketing major with a 3.77 GPA, and I own my own business. NEVER give up hope.

I started having problem with one eye, my half body was getting tingling and numb, my speech then slurred and started vomiting before passing out. I actually learned that I had a stroke only when I start reading about my symptoms and understanding what stroke is. I am 29 now and I still remember that as a horrible day of my life and I am trying to figure it out whys without success so far. Now I am more focusing if a childhood stroke increases our chances for having another one and how would we be able to prevent it !? Cheers.

My stroke story I survived 5 simultaneous strokes. You can’t see any physical damage just by looking at me. I don’t have a droopy face, slurred speech or hand paralysis. However, I have short term memory loss, R hand numbness, blind from half of my eyes up and short tempered (from what people tell me, I wasn’t like that but I don’t know lol) Accident occurred after I ran about 3 miles or more and went to take a shower before I went out with friends. Lucky, I’m an EMT and worked at Hospital one block away. Yes, I lived that close. Calling an ambulance would have seemed a bit foolish. When I began to have my symptoms I began to walk toward the hospital. Blessed to say my coworkers/friends found me and took me to the ER. Here I am still alive. Couldn’t be more great full.

I don't know if I had a stroke or not... I was about 11 or 12 and I got a huge migraine, there was this rapid swirling in my left eye. I tried to watch a movie to distract me from the pain, but the movement of the TV made my head hurt even more. My leg went numb and so did that entire side of my body. touching my own had felt like I was touching someone else. My stomach churned as I sat there trying to focus on the movie. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore I had my mom help me upstairs. She brought me a mattress to lay on as she read me a story to try and calm me down. I asked for a bucket and she went and got one. After a couple of minutes, I was throwing up everything that was in me and even more. She had pet my head until I fell asleep. The next morning I still had a raging headache but I could see and I had gotten my feeling back. After this, I had gotten more major migraines and Some even worse. I'm only 14 right now and I'm not sure what was wrong and what really did happen to me. No, I never went to a hospital but, my sister thinks that I should talk to a doctor to see what is wrong and to see if it was a stroke...

the only thing that causes strokes is blood clots or bleeding in the brain and will usually have an effect on your dominate side of your body

I had a bad stroke in July, 2016. I am paralyzed down the right side. I still work all the time to improve! I can talk, I can hobble and I can reason! I get improved all the time. I have a website I started back up. I have all those issues, but I have a bit of fun with family and friends! Check it out if you like! I feel like the movie Avatar -- where you feel normal when you live in the You Tube world! Take care. Thanks for reading.

I wonder if any of the stroke survivors developed epilepsy after their strokes. I had my stroke about 2 years ago and then I had 2 seizures within 6 months. So now I am on anti seizure meds. I am 38.

NOPE. NONE OF THE ABOVE. Mine was caused by a birth defect (brain aneurysm) and the others were all in some way or another caused by their Birth Control combined with unknown clotting disorders... you could’ve watched the whole video instead of calling us out unfairly. We were all insanely healthy young athletes.
