A few clarifications and a point if we may? US SRP for the Carina GaN is $2,999. The LEDs on the main board are status indicators for production and service if needed. We measured a significantly higher level when the DH Maria is playing the song through a computer speaker here. That is likely giving the Maria an unfair advantage in this comparison. We would suggest level matching them so any potential level bias is removed. Thank you.
@OCDHIFiGuyАй бұрын
Thanks for your reply. They are honestly different pieces with different sonic. I saw where you posted on FB about a +2Db difference when you measured on your computer speakers. I matched mic input levels on the VU, but if you would like me to show a dB measurement before each recording, I'm happy to do so, although driving this point home will be the result. I honestly don't think we should try to compare a $3K piece with a $17K as it's an unfair advantage, though I don't want you to feel slighted in any way. I made a solid recommendation for your piece for those with a $3K budget. I'll contact you, and I'll correct anything you believe was unfair, however. 🙂

@@OCDHIFiGuy We simply wanted to correct the factual errors and point out that we heard (and then measured) the Maria at significantly higher loudness on the same parts of the track you used for your comparison. If the microphone was in the same position for both, it might make sense to measure the AC voltage output at the speaker outputs on both devices with a midrange tone or similar to help ensure they are actually equal loudness. Doing it with an SPL meter is less accurate in our experience. Our measurement likely wasn't super accurate either but it was running consistently higher on the Maria. At least a few dB. If you want to send the file to us, I can ask our guys to test the loudness of your comparison more accurately.
@peachtreeaudio2267Ай бұрын
@@OCDHIFiGuy When we set your video clip from 16:24-17:24 (DH Maria playing) we record a max SPL of 75.4 dB from a computer speaker. When we set your video clip from 6:46-7:46 (Carina GaN playing) we record a max SPL of 73.4 dB. We repeated this test half a dozen times and got the same results within a tenth of a dB (1.9 - 2.0 dB) every time so we are fairly certain the DH Maria was playing significantly louder than the Carina GaN in this video. We would appreciate it if you clarified or rectified this apparent discrepancy for your audience. We would also be happy to analyze the AV file you posted to YT in an audio software program to confirm or refute our initial findings as the method we used wasn't ideal. In the end, all that we ask, is that any audio comparison (regardless of brand) be level matched to avoid any output level bias in the results. It has been our experience that even a 1 dB level discrepancy will favor the louder product significantly in a listening test.

Thanks for this video. I own the Peachtree Gan-1 (just the amplification part from the Carina GaN). I’ll take the “it’s good” from someone who deals in exotic and high level high-fi. My whole set costs as much as your streamer alone. I’d would hope the DH sounds much better, but you can also see the level of attention for design and quality of materials used. I was glad you picked the Peachtree, you don’t see them in reviews too often.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would be struggling over the differences between a $2,600 piece of gear and a $15,000 piece of gear, they're not even in the same zip code. And the person looking to only spend 3k, would not even be considering a piece of gear that's almost 6 times as expensive. A more likely comparison someone might be considering would be the Maria vs a nice hi end amp, preamp, DAC combination. that comes in around the same cost or a little more.
@OCDHIFiGuyАй бұрын
I disagree. I think people still need to hear what you get for $17K. Many have the money, but think there's "no need" to spend it. Salespeople tell them it's the same thing many times, in an effort to make an easy, fast sale. People with means will throw away $3K and not be concerned if they make a poor decision. They don't have the desire to really learn what high level sound is, as it takes too much time and is really confusing. My video cuts to the chase and helps people understand the difference. I could use many things in the $17 to $20K range to make my point. Just so happened these were the pieces here.
@a.s.2426Ай бұрын
Agree on that, Mikey.
@gme10955Ай бұрын
@@OCDHIFiGuy That's actually a good point I hadn't considered. Personally I know better than to think I can get the same performance from a 3K piece of gear compared to one costing 17K. But here's the situation I'm wondering about. Can I get the same level of performance from the 15K single box Maira 350, compared to a much more expensive system consisting of separate components? I hear a lot of hype around the single box Maira beating out much more expensive separates. Is that really the case, or is it just hype? I also like the idea of keeping things simple, which would be the case with the Maira, which would eliminate IC's and several power cords.

So if the reviewer needs to manipulate the output to allow his system to sound better , well then, that is really saying something, namely that the Peachtree must have performed pretty darn well for him to have to enhance the results for the system he prefers. Nice Job Peachtree!

I have been looking to put together a system with .7 or 1.7 Maggies. No, I don't expect it to compete with the $20k+ system. Honest reviews of midfi isn't the easiest to find as more are reviewers of Hifi or fun fi. They are not the same. The fun fi reviewers often review something up market but pair it with their fun fi crap then say the mid fi stuff is over priced.

Love the video. Puts things into perspective. But it begs a question... where to focus and put your money. Suppose you had a budget of 10K or 20K for everything. Where should you focus? At some point, you hit a point of diminishing returns. I guess a challenge to you would be to find a mix of components that will punch about their weight in a given weight class. Could you build out a system who's total budget is ~50K that beats out a 100K or 200K system? I'd also tell you to save your money on your network switch. Just go out and buy a decent 10GbE switch using CAT 7 cables from MicroCenter / NewEgg . 'Audio Grade' Network switches are a myth.

I will take it one step further and say that certain channels exist and were specifically created for the sole purpose of playing to the masses knowing full well that most people's listening habits will never justify the expense for quality. They are fishing with huge nets not a single line. It's a numbers game. There is a massive subsect of this hobby, one that I fall directly in the middle of. Farrari's are cool cars. They are aesthetically attractive and have a marketed perception of quality. I like them but I've never driven one. Unfortunately for my wallet I have driven a couple of good HIFI rigs. I hear the difference and it's worth it to me. I just don't have the means to play at ultra-high levels. At 16K for mostly used equipment, I am far beyond the target market of most Stereo equipment they market as HIFI. Simultaneously I am at the bottom end of "HIFI". Of the 27.1K subscribers to this channel, I would find it next to impossible to believe a single one of them here would have advised me to buy what I did. I have zero delusions that for the exact same money I spent that a better sound couldn't be had. I know there is. However, given my lack of experience in HIFI and my cynicism towards people telling me what I would like, I was on my own. I have not one regret. I absolutely love what I have and know it needs some help. As much as I would love to come and spend days enjoying any rig like Mikeys, from a business standpoint, it's a waste of any sellers' time because my wallet keeps me out of that market, just like the Farrari market. This channel never hit my radar until a year and a half after I spent my money. (Buy once cry once) While I believe many here are in the same boat, we have different means and tastes. I am just here to appreciate what is possible, simply for the love of sound and a great listening experience.

Sell a couple 1911's and a few ARs and you'll buy higher if it's what you want. everyone has thier "splurge". I'm sure you already know this, but I just wanted to clarify my position a bit. I can't believe that someone would will actually pay money for Klipsch speakers, but if it makes them happy, its the right speaker. I didn't mention this in my first post, but the more I think about it, I should have given full disclosure. I have a negative bias when it comes to Peachtree. Not so much against the products, but the importer. Unless something has changed, Dave Wasserman is the US importer/distributer for Peachtree. Lets just say I'm not a fan. Between all the people I brought into his store, and myself, we have him hundreds of thousands of dollars in business over the years. He knowingly screwed me out of $200 on a pair of Meridian speakers for my home theater. That's as low as it gets. (Just to be clear, the speakers were for HT only. Yeah, I'm the guy that gives you my honest opinion. If $3K is your budget, buy it. That was my recommendation. I sell the high end, and I showed you what you get for your extra money. Quit your crying.

Wasn’t a review. The purpose was to show the sound delta between two different tiers to highlight what you get at the higher tier. Seemed pretty clear.

Yeah the Maria killed it. I could hear you easily over that peachtreason. Maybeeeee its putting out 50 wpc. Unless those speakers are 82db efficient........not! lol It does look ok, but I thought it was going to fly out of your hands when you lifted it out of the box. Not my taste, but it does look ok. My Emerald Physics 200.2SE would destroy that amp.
