OMG I LOVE IT!!! Spiders have definitely never been one of my favorite animals, but the more I've learned the more there is no denying that they are fascinating. But these guys take the prize :) When I first watched this I had a gaping stare of amazement that I had not worn since I was a little kid! It was nice to feel that raw sense of awesome again :)

Such flambouyant little creatures. Thank you for bringing such exquisite creatures to our attention again. Love the timing to the music, too!! :)) Their whole mating routine seems more akin to bull-fighting, with the male using his legs and his flares.. to both attract and distract the female. Marvellous action pieces.

My favourite thing about these spiders is how the males will try to tap their front legs on top of the female's head first to ask if she's okay with it.

It seems to me like it hypnotizes the prey in a way in an unknown way, has to do with the back feather beauty and the way it just moves in a sequence and play and suddenly it touch's the foe, making sure it gets to hit perfectly and never quits. Thanks, I am humbled by your comment. It is exciting to find new ones of course, but I get as much excitement out of photographing those that are already known but haven't been documented yet. An example is the one I recently photographed on Middle Island (see my flickr page). It has been described last year, but the black and white line drawings didn't do it justice in my opinion

you say in your notes the spider displays for courtship but I suspect its for life preservation. My understanding of spider courtship is you don't want to be the male. You're lucky if you even get to mate let alone survive the experience. I think they are more like fascinators, keeping the females focused on the pretty colours ...
