I did this trip today for the first time. We did almost exactly the same route you did in the video - along the streamway to Far Sump, then along Lake Passage to Ink Sump, except we didn't have time to go to Moss Chamber on the way back. Water levels relatively low today compared to in this video. On the way out in full oversuits, the public queueing for the next guided showcave tour must have wondered what they'd let themselves in for! Good video, thanks.

Hi Keith, this reminds of an exchange trip I once did between Jame's Hall over-engine mine and Peak cavern. We came out through collostomy crawl and were covered in liquid mud, so like your group we washed off our suits thoroughly before going into the show cave. There we met a group of tourists who were excited to meet "real" cavers and to hear about our "historic" trip (it was the first time an exchange trip had been done). One of the tourists suddenly asked us whether it was muddy. Since we'd made an effort to clean our suits we were surprised and asked what had given us away. "Faces" they replied at which point we realised that whilst our suits were shiny and gleaming our faces were still masks of caked mud!

Most cave explorers don't employ "The Devil's..." to promote a video. Evil has that work in-hand and needs no solicitation. Ask for a blessing as a higher power will help those who helped their self.
@CaverKeith2 жыл бұрын
I'm not using it to promote the video. It is the name of the cave. 😁 This is from the History of Castleton website: The cave was originally called “Devil’s Arse” due to the flatulence-like sounds that emanate from within the caverns, the name was changed in 1880 to “Peak Cavern” in order to avoid causing the then visiting Queen Victoria any offence. More recently however, the cave has been promoted using its more traditional (and more vulgar!) older name.
