After years of biking around Europe Covid stopped that playground and started to enjoy this country. Living on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire I began to appreciate what was on the doorstep, so here is the start of a series of day ride outs to discover what we have. This is a 70 mile figure of eight loop that is a great taster of the historic sites, villages, rivers and just great roads.
Click on the gpx link below and you can then download the route.

Hi Roj, I could just imagine a very weed coated surface under the water that I could not see that would hardly bother a car but could have me down in an instant🤣🥵

I enjoyed that, Norman. Thanks for taking us with you on your ride, I think I recognise some of those roads. Derbyshire is such a pretty place, I'll have to get back up there this year when/if the weather sorts itself out.

Terrific content; lovely route and great narration! I'm relatively local (M1/J27) and find myself in the Matlock zone a couple of times a year but it's great to know what I'm looking at. Hilarious that I never saw Thor's Cave on that road because I only ever went down the hill! HA! Who knew?! Keep 'em coming sir and stay safe 👏

@@normski3091 Went out to try this route today.. (still giggling to myself). Made a wrong turn just before point 5 and inadvertently followed a car up Swainsley Bank, that was intense. GPS re-routed fine and subsequently took me onto Wetton Road, which was a helter skelter of a 14% gradient lol. Then the Garmin had a fit and wanted me to keep doing loops around the Bermuda Triangle of Thor's nether regions and as it was getting late in the day and a couple of degrees colder I decided to bail out. Managed to find the tunnel though which was ace and went through the shallow ford, but happy to save the rest for another attempt! Lotta folks about, tons of bikes and plenty of plod. Could've sworn I saw you at the point I should have made a right turn, but the chap had a white lid and isn't yours blue? I WILL SPOT THAT CAVE YET! 🤣🤳

@@normski3091 Oh I'm just using an ancient Garmin Zumo 350 (with Calimoto as a backup) and it will reroute you........ You just have to go REALLY wrong first! hehe Setting it up as a Trip, it really doesn't like it when you cut bits out of the route without some finger punching. ... and good luck trying to get phone signal round Thor's neck of the woods! Anyway, was just what I needed. Thanks again Norm

Hi Paul, so pleased you enjoyed it, bit unsure of doing a series like this??. Recording straight into the GoPro Hero 10 with the Media pack. I put a fairly cheap lapel mic into the wind muffler of the SENA mic that is fitted to my helmet and the 3.5 socket runs out under my Shoei into the GoPro.

Hi. Brilliant ride around some of my favourite Peak District roads. My Basecamp prog on my laptop doesn't show any where near the detail of yours. I (think!) I've loaded the maps off my Garmin 5 plus satnav but the satnav has far more detail on its screen than Basecamp. What maps have you got loaded on your computer/Basecamp if you don't mind me asking?

Morning Ian, so pleased you enjoyed the video. I just have the latest ones as they come out, keep the Garmin updated whenever it asks. You must have your Garmin connected to your laptop while you plot routes, that is the only way you get detailed maps? Does that make sense? Let me know if a problem and I will help.

great seeing you again chap. time for a review on your new-ish bike, how you enjoying it? are you comfortable on it? do you find it heavy compared to the RT......and many more thoughts too on your choice and what about your buddys are they enjoying it too? again thank you

Hi Phil, Great to hear from you again. Yes loving my bike, so do the other guys. Not that we have been out much together. Mike and myself did the Highlands last September, which was great. I am comfortable on it BUT although a little lighter than the RT on paper it is one heavy bike. I must admit I struggle at slow manoeuvres, just don't ask me to do U turns , would rather ride to the next roundabout. Just have that fear of dropping it 🤕... so I have booked the BMW Off Road course in the Brecon Beacons July 2/3rd. Only Level 1 of course, I have no desire to go off-road but I really need that confidence boost.Very expensive and I got one of the last slots this year. Hope it works, I will let you know how I get on (even if it from the hospital bed🤣)

@@normski3091 well i hope you over come your fears .......try an empty carpark for the slow turns ........and enjoy your course ...... you have a lot of guts there young man......enjoy.
